Confused - Mullet further than Orient?

From various posts here & on trip advisor it sounds like distance is greater & taxi fare higher to Mullet than Orient from ship's pier - even though pier & Mullet are both on the Dutch side? Am trying to decide which of these to go to as during a stay in St Martin many many years ago I visited & liked both but can't remember which I liked better. Distance/fare from ship may be a deciding factor.

Yes, Mullet Bay Beach is farther and more expensive to get to than Orient.

 

In addition, traffic is much more likely to be a problem, especially returning from Mullet.

 

Orient is much more developed than Mullet, with numerous bars/restaurants and water sport activities available.
