Pros and cons of porthole staterooms?

I had one porthole cabin that I had no problems at all with and enjoyed the view.

Then I sailed on the Glory in a porthole cabin......I will never book one again. The noise of the water crashing against the bow of the ship was so loud! It must have been that sailing and the weather (BC4). A fellow cruiser was also in a forward porthole cabin and was having the same issues. Neither one of us could sleep; we were like zombies the whole cruise.

I don't spend a lot of time in my cabin, I'd rather have a 1A midship than deal with that noise.

We have U18 on the Imagination, in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!! I believe it's the first porthole, after the regular cabins end. We've never been in one before, so we're really looking forward to it!:D
