jojo412 Posted April 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Hello all! I have a question for anyone that is able to help, or has had a similar experience: I'm going on a cruise to Bermuda next month with my wonderful sister who has generously paid for the trip and even prepaid the service charge fees. To thank her, I bought us some OBC (a few hundred) and casino promo chips from the Bon Voyage gift section. I booked this through an NCL rep over the phone and received email confirmation. I told the rep that this is a surprise and was told that there'd be a little card waiting for us in our stateroom with my message. I see that it doesn't appear on our Edocs, which is fine because I already knew that it wouldn't. I guess my question is when we arrive at the terminal and they take our credit card info to set up the onboard account, will they acknowledge that we have the OBC on the account? Again, I was hoping this would be a surprise for her and that she'd find out when we get to the room and read the card. Otherwise, shed find out at the terminal before we even get on (which I want to avoid). Has anyone ever had a similar experience where OBC was bought as a gift? Did you find out when u checked in at the desk in the terminal, or when you got to your room? Thanking you in advance!
OceanDreaming2 Posted April 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2012 I'm going to guess you won't be advised of any OBC until you arrive in your cabin. That's the way it's been when we've had OBC from T/A's or Norwegian directly. Have fun!
johnql Posted April 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2012 I've had OBC given to me as a gift and I did not find out about it at check-in. The card in the cabin was definitely a surprise.

I've had a soda card show up on an NCL online account before, but never a had a gifted OBC show online or at check in.
khaide612 Posted April 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2012 I've bought bon voyage items for my family and myself and no one has ever been told at check-in about any of the surprises. I think they are too busy trying to get people through the line to worry about extras at that time.
puddles99 Posted April 20, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2012 I'll ditto what everyone else has said (no notification at check in) but would also suggest that you take a copy of your confirmation email with you. I knew that both my aunt and my parents had gifted us OBC on our recent cruise and but I only received one card in my stateroom. I asked about it at Guest Services and the second gift was not on the account. They took a copy of the confirmation (my Mom had sent it to me) email, followed up with corporate, and credited our on-board account the next day. Enjoy your cruise! This is correct - keep in mind it sometimes takes several hours (sometimes even a day) for the card to get delivered to your cabin. Don't worry if it isn't there when you first get into your cabin.
