Sea Days and Activities

Recommended Posts

So I went on a compass search last night to see what sort of activities are offered during sea days. BF and I are in our late 20s and I can just see him rolling his eyes at a bunch of the stuff -- a lot of it seems a bit cheesy. It seems like it just may be "part of the experience" but I'm wondering how many of you actually engage in the "game shows" and other activities and how many just do your own thing? What are your favorite activities? What activities do people our age tend to do?

Thanks!

My favorite "shows" are The Love and Marriage Show and the Quest. I see them every time on the ship and always love them.

The bellyflop contest and hairy legs contest are fun to watch by the pool.

If you don't like any of them, you can always leave.

By the way, we are in our 60s.

My husband and I are only a few years older than you and your boyfriend. On the days at sea, we did participate in some of the scheduled activities. We wound up in one of the bars for a Harry Potter trivia contest and a 9 year old wiped the floor with us. :D We also did the Men vs Women contest and a few other group activities. But most of the time we just wandered and did our own thing. We went to the game room and played gin rummy, lounged in the hot tub, and just generally wandered around spending time together. I enjoyed the days at sea a lot more than the islands.

I do very few of those activities - I'm more likely to be on my balcony reading! The great thing about a cruise ship is that there's something for everyone - if you don't like the game shows, no one else will ever know or care that you didn't go. Depending on what ship you're on, you can climb the climbing wall, or go ice skating, or lie in the sun, or swim in the pool, or gamble in the casino, or drink in the bar, or watch a movie, or whatever you like. No one is going to be trying to herd you into doing activities you don't like.

We're about your age, and I did a few organized activities but not a ton. The daytime activities I'm most likely to do are either sports-related (rock wall, flowrider, yoga class), drinking-related (wine tasting, mixology class) or trivia. At night I'm likely to see some of the musicians, watch a show, or do one of the bigger "game shows"- Quest can be a blast (or a dud, depending on your CD and the passengers), and Love & Marriage is usually funny.

I'm not big on bingo, towel-animal folding, or bellyflop contests.

Sea days find me at the pool 99% of the time. We don't go to any of the activities...if there is a pool contest, we watch that, but sitting on deck with a good book and watching all that's going on is plenty for me!

If no balcony the Promenade deck (outside - not to be confused with the indoor malls) is a nice place to relax with view of water and sea smell.

There are usually Ping-Pong tables.

Sea Days are nice for using the movie theater where seats are better than sitting on edge of bed.

Lunch in MDR is a nice change up form WJ when you have more time than port days.

Rock wall? Mini-golf?

We're more than twice your age and I have to agree that most activities even for us aren't exactly our "thing".

We just enjoy the days at sea for the sake of relaxation and down time from our busy lives and as a chance to reconnect with each other. Somehow, we always manage to fill them up between meals, pool time, maybe a show here or there, taking photos, a drink or two, throwing some money into the casino (minimally), and on occasion joining in for other things. There was once a cooking demonstration we both enjoyed, and the talks they give for shore excursions can be enjoyable if the right person is giving them.

Cheesy is what you make of it. I'm sure you'll both find plenty to do and you won't be bored :)
