cprofits Posted April 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Thinking of booking this tour through the ship and noticed that nowhere in the description of the excursion does it mention transportation to the Tramway from the ship. Because this is an all day pass, go at your leisure, how could the cruise line transport people any time of the day at their whim? Has anyone taken this tour through their cruiseline? Did you have to secure your own transportation to the tramway? Thanks!
DougH Posted April 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Mt Roberts tram is basically right at the pier. 2 minute walk from most locations, maybe 5 if sailing on Princess.

IMHO this is a waste of money on a cloudy, foggy day and if you prepurchase and arrive in Juneau to find inclimate weather and low clouds you may want to rethink.. there's seldom a line to get tickets at the tram.. Budget Queen Posted April 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Some cruiselines run dock shuttles, since some ships are a ways down Franklin. I too, recommend purchasing tram tickets when you get there, if you can't see the top, forget it.
jukeboxy Posted April 30, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2005 I went to the top of the tram last year and plan to do it again this year regardless of the weather (unless rainning cats and dogs). There is more at the top than just a great view. There is a nice gift shop and resturant and some nature trails and a video center. Last year we went to have lunch and were quite happy with the food but the portions were too big. We did not get to do any of the trails or the video thingy so that is what we will focus on this year. The funny thing is that while we were there the only time I saw people taking in the view was when they were just off the tram or waiting to go down. Hope this helps someone. mii Posted April 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Basically as stated above the tram is right across the street from most of the piers where the ships are. Very easy walking. We plan to go up on the tram unless it is foggy. As Jukeboxy said there is things to do up there, like hiking, gift shops, restaurants, etc. Have fun.
