If anyone is looking for a wonderful tour in Ketchikan on Sunday, June 24, please join us. Dave & Kat will be our guides for a few hours. Here is a recap of what we will be doing and seeing. Please contact Dave and Kat if you are interested in joining this up-close and personal tour tours@ketchikantaxicabtours.com:

  • By Late June there will be salmon returning to many of the rivers on the island. With salmon come eagles and bears to feed. Photography is wonderful with all of this activity.
  • The best area for taking in some native culture is Totem Bight and Potlatch Park. These parks are side-by-side. Totem poles, clan houses, a carving center, and a Russian Museum all at one stop. We usually do a one-way walk through both of these parks.
  • Totem Bight is 10 miles north of town. The north side of the island also has a few opportunities to experience some of the Tongass National Forest. Most people cruising to Alaska don't realize they are cruising through the largest temperate rain forest in the world. Red cedars, Western Hemlock, Sitka Spruce, lichens, mosses, and ferns make up most of the forest. The end of the salmon berry season is about then but we will have huckleberries and blueberries to pick in the forest! Some very easy 5-10 minute walks are an option.
  • The road in Ketchikan parallels the inside passage. Very scenic north and south of town. We often see Orcas cruising close to shore.
  • In town we sometimes stop at Creek Street, take in some of our famous wooden roads, and point out the more significant sites.
  • We are very sporadic and stop when we want to. One never knows what crosses our path as we are driving on the island.
  • Both Kat and I give running commentary as we drive and show you the sites.
