silvercrikhix Posted May 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2012 Hi, Fellow CC'ers. On another thread, I was fortunate to have a few folks tell a bit about the history of Pike Place Market and found it quite interesting. I had a conversation with someone today and they asked me if I knew the history of THE FIRE in Seattle. Something about a furniture factory, glue and dynamite!? Can anybody tell me more or recommend a book or website where I can learn more of this Seattle fire history? Thank you for your time and consideration. As always, happy sailing! mapleleaves Posted May 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2012 Maybe you're a good candidate for the Seattle Underground Tour. http://www.undergroundtour.com/about/history.html

KeepCalmBearOn Posted May 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2012 Here is a good link. http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&File_Id=715 One thing I love about cruising and especially days at sea is the chance to just relax and read without distractions. I often read fiction about where I have been or am going, an example for Seattle might be J.P. Beaumont series by JA Jance. Beaumont is a Seattle detective, great stories. http://www.goodreads.com/series/41261-j-p-beaumont They are like the Harry Bosch series for L.A. by Michael Connelly. http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/12470.Michael_Connelly
nna Posted May 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2012 for a quirky history --Bill Speidel who started the underground tours...wrote this.. "Sons of the Profits" is excellent. came out in the 1960's. the museum of history and industry had on display the gluepot that over turned and started the great fire. I think the museum is currently moving due to freeway construction. I went on the underground tour in the 1960's...very dusty back then and informal.
