readytoembark Posted June 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2012 We just got back from a Mediterranean cruise. We arrived the day before our cruise departed and spent a night at the Hotel Flor Parks in Barcelona. I booked the hotel through venere.com . The hotel has good reviews on Trip Advisor but I didn’t find any reviews on Cruise Critic so thought I would mention it here as our experience with it was very good. The hotel is modest but comfortable, very clean, nice large marble bathrooms, moderately priced and in a GREAT location on La Rambla. Our group ranged in age from 18 to 73 and we all felt very safe. We had three rooms – two doubles and a triple. Two of the rooms were right on La Rambla and we didn’t experience any issues with noise – however we did have a couple cocktails before retiring for the night. The location was great – located just more than midway on La Rambla and right on the edge of the Gothic quarter. It’s a block from Placa Reial which was a great place to have dinner – lots of choices. We also stopped at a bar located inside one of the arches going into the Placa which was nice. Rick Steve’s mentions this square in his book and I was expecting it to be a bit more ‘shady’ than it was. Actually there was nothing there that made us uncomfortable – just lots of normal looking people enjoying the outdoor seating at the various restaurants and bars. It’s also located just a few blocks from the La Boqueria Market which is fun to walk through. Just a few doors down from the hotel is a McDonald’s, a KFC and a few blocks away is a Dunkin Donuts… no we didn’t go into any of these… but if you’re traveling with kids you may appreciate having these options nearby – or if you’re just looking for a cheap cup of coffee (I’m assuming they have coffee). One piece of advice for any of the hotels on La Rambla – if you’re taking a taxi to the cruise terminal which we did – make sure to get a taxi from the side of the street heading towards the terminal. Otherwise you have to ride a ways down La Rambla to turn around to get headed in the right direction. It cost us about 18 Euro to get to the cruise ship and I’m guessing it would have been about half that if we had gotten in a cab going towards the terminal instead of away from it.
