FLsunshinegal Posted July 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2012 We're flying home from Rome via Dublin. We like the city and want to stop for two nights. We're looking for a hotel where we can walk around, near a pub etc. Maybe near Trinity College? Thanks!
Mairnealach Posted July 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Hi, There are many hotels near Trinity College and lots of pubs in the area. If you would kindly let me know the type of hotel, moderately priced or upmarket, you require, I will do my best to assist. Dermot
Mairnealach Posted July 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Here are four top class hotels that are within five minutes walking distance of Trinity College. As I live in Dublin, I have not stayed in any of them and so cannot comment on their bedrooms. But I have dined in two of them and been in the lounge of the others. Their ambience and location are first rate. 1. The Shelbourne Hotel http://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/travel/dubbr-the-shelbourne-dublin-a-renaissance-hotel/ Dublin's most historic hotel where for nearly two hundred years the gentry and the well-heeled have stayed. It is situated in a prime location on St Stephen's Green and has a great atmosphere. I had a highly enjoyable lunch there last Sunday. 2. The Merrion Hotel http://www.merrionhotel.com/ Located in converted Georgian houses across the road from the Irish Parliament, National Gallery and Merrion Square. It is where members of the International Monetary Fund stay when on their regular visits to Dublin to receive an account of our stewardship of their bail-out money. It is quieter and less atmospheric than the Shelbourne. Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud -Michelin two stars and priced accordingly - is situated in the hotel. http://restaurantpatrickguilbaud.ie/ 3. The Westbury Hotel http://www.doylecollection.com/locations/dublin_hotels/the_westbury_hotel.aspx Excellent situated off Grafton Street. Afternoon tea in the first floor lounge, while listening to the pianist playing and looking out the windows at the street life below, is a very civilised way of passing a few hours. 4. The Davenport Hotel http://www.davenporthotel.ie/ Located just off Merrion Square, it was converted to an hotel from a former religious meeting hall and has a fine, nineteenth-century facade. It is quiet and without much atmosphere. I would rate it below the previous three hotels. If you have any questions about these hotels, or seek further information, do please ask. TERRIER1 Posted July 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2012 If these hotels are "out of budget" then I would suggest the Best Western Academy. We stayed for 5 days in June and where the neighborhood was a little "weird" the location was great and so was the price. The room we had 413 was spacious and very nice. We could walk to anywhere and also get on the Luas and take day tours from Heuston and Connelly Station. If you are only to be in Dublin 1 or 2 days then splurge otherwise this hotel was more than adequate. We would go back in a heartbeat.
Yaya&Papu Posted July 16, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 16, 2012 Quite a few years ago, we stayed at Jury's Inn right across the street from Christ Church Cathedral. There is a bus stop at the corner and it is an easy walk to Dublin Castle. It is about a mile or so to Trinity - so very walkable. Jury's is a chain and there may be one closer, but for our purposes, it was very nice.
