MissDancinJ Posted July 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Hi, all!!! My family & I are heading to St. Thomas on HAL Eurodam this Nov. We have 2 children ages 1 & 4. Looking for something kid-friendly in St. Thomas. Any suggestions? Free/cheap beaches near the cruise port?
blue_water Posted July 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2012 Emerald hote'sl beach at Lindbergh Bay is popular with families looking for a beach nearer the dock for just beaching. For a more exciting experience look at Coral World at Coki Beach.
laser110 Posted July 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2012 Eurodam usually docks at Crown Bay. The above mentioned excursion to Coral World might enteratin your 4 year old, but I can't think of anyhting anywhere that gets a 1 years too excited. All beaches with the exception of Magens Bay is free of charge on St. Thomas. Magen's might however be a good choice , as it has facilities to change the 1 year old if necessary, food is available and the water is very gentle, so the 4 year old won't feel intimdated by going into the water. blue_water Posted July 31, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2012 Yes best to just hit a calm beach like Lindbergh or Magens, in 5 years the kids would enjoy Coral World or other options.
el820 Posted July 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2012 It's been 10+ years since I last visited St. Thomas, and I don't recall a fee to Magens Bay. What's the cost to visit nowadays? Thanks
laser110 Posted July 31, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 31, 2012 Magen's Bay has always had a fee, as it is a National Park and the fee is used to keep the Park in order. If you took a taxi, in some cases the taxi driver will pay the fee and work it into the price you pay for the trip, thus you may not recall paying it. Unless it has gone up, the fee for visitors is $4. Scott
jimf41 Posted August 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Megans Bay Is not part of NPS. It is run by the Megans Bay Authority and they also run Smith Bay Park. At Smith Bay the admission is $2 but the ticket is good for same day use at Megans Bay where the fee is $4 as mentioned above.
laser110 Posted August 1, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2012 jimf41- I stand corrected, but it is a Park and the fees do go to maintain the facilities. Scott
jimf41 Posted August 1, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Laser, I didn't mean to nit pick you but as a holder of a Senior Pass I get in free and park free at NPS facilities. Most of the popular facilities on St John are NPS. I agree that the fees do go to maintaining the facilities and they do a pretty good job IMO at maintaining Megans and Smith Bay.
