celebrity Posted July 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2012 Just curious..on my June sailing of EOS, when reboarding the ship in St Maarten, I had an open bottle of water. The security agent asked me to shake the bottle. I'm assuming it was to check if I was smuggling alcohol. Does alcohol bubble when shaken?
ChipLondon Posted July 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2012 Yes, different alcohols respond in different ways to water when shaken
Ocean Boy Posted July 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2012 At least they gave you the shake opportunity. I had to throw my water in the trash.
joe6666 Posted July 24, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2012 Shake a bottle of water and notice how long it takes the bubbles to go away. Then shake a bottle of vodka and notice how long it takes for the bubbles to go away. This method was often used by moonshiners to tell the proof of their product. marci22 Posted July 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2012 At least they gave you the shake opportunity. I had to throw my water in the trash. Me too. And mine was mostly a big chunk of ice because the bottle had been frozen.
