TraelorMex Posted July 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2012 Quick question for those who have been to Casablanca. Would like feedback on the shore excursion 'Magical Marrakech'. Is this excursion worth the 8 hour round trip drive? Are there really interesting things to do/see that cannot be done/seen closer to the port? Thanks in advance for your help. Pettifogger Posted July 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2012 I can only address the latter half of your post, about interesting things close to the port. We walked out from the ship to the gate of the port and it was quite a long walk. However, once one gets that far, there are interesting things including a large traditional market. The first few rows of shops seem to be aimed at cruise ship passengers, but if one penetrates farther there are real arab/berber shops. The Mahgreb flavor is very real and the more delicate cruise passengers might well not like it, but we love it. After we left the market, we had a glass of mint tea and watched the passersby. travelnnana Posted August 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2012 It does not take that may hours to getfrom Casablanca to Marrakech - a new highway has been built - about 2.5 hours:D
Rare kazu Posted August 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Definitely hit the ports board for more info - but we went to Rabat - it was tremendous:) less than an hour's drive if I recall correctly and then we headed back to Casablanca to see their few sights:) (we did a private tour - not HAl)
Pettifogger Posted August 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Rabat is a delightful place. We spent several days there when we went to Morocco by air. It's the capital city, clean, nice and has good restaurants. More important, the Moroccans were very welcoming to us there as well as elsewhere in the country. Lady Chew Posted August 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2012 We were in Casablanca last November ... did a ship tour. It was fabulous! We had a top-notch guide and she really made the city & country come to life for us. There is quite a lot to see ... if we were to go back I think we'd do a private tour to really get into things.
