Are cruise line credit cards really worth it?

We have the RCCL card, pay in full every month. I let my points accumulate and just booked 7 day cruise for free!

But that was under the old rules with the new RCI/BOA visa you cannot combine any other discount if you wish to upgrade making the card useless.

I used 50,000 points to get a $500 credit on a cruise that we took on RCCL in December. So I suppose it is worth a little to me. BUT, I used the RCL Visa in Falmouth for a large-ish jewelry purchase and was socked with hefty Foreign Transaction fees by BofA. Darn! I did not even think about that, since the entire transaction was conducted in US dollars, not Jamaican dollars. Live and learn...
