hollon Posted August 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2012 I'm trying to decide on RCCL Jewel or Caribbean Princess, the differences between the two are: The C.P. leaves out of N.Y and only one day at sea(which I like) and makes an extra stop at newport, r.i., and boston, mass. BUT does not go or portland, maine. I know nothing about these ports, so don't know if I'm missing something by not going to portland, maine. Other than that they go to the same place. Any recommendations or advice????? or even ships???? This is for Oct, so want to book pretty soon, :)
WELDON Posted August 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2012 I live in the Boston area and have also taken a Canada/NE cruise that stopped in Portland. If I were to miss Newport or Portland, I would choose Portland. There is a lot to see in Newport but not so much in Portland. You would need to take an excursion out of the city if you plan to see anything. Newport offers the mansions, cliff walk, tennis hall of fame, Touro Synagogue, lots of restaurants. It is easy to get around, you can walk places or you can take a trolley tour on your own. Newport is more of a tourist destination.

WELDON Posted August 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2012 I was on Jewel. It is a beautiful ship, one of my favorites. The ports were Portland, Bar Harbor, Halifax, St. John. In June I was on Carnival Glory, 5 night to Halifax, St. John. IMO the main ports are in Canada. There probably isn't much difference in the two trips you are considering.
