DiploTraveler Posted August 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2012 I'm about to book Westerdam for a week and the only rooms available in my preferred cat (VD) are connecting rooms. I've heard of people having issues with noise and smoke penetrating the connecting doors. How bad is it really? We have a toddler, so I don't want to disturb my neighbors with any crying, tantrums, and what not. I also wouldn't want him woken up during daytime naps, although he's not terribly sensitive to noise. We've traveled on two HAL cruises without any problems, but never in a connecting room. RuthC Posted August 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2012 I've been in many connecting cabins, on many HAL ships (including the Westerdam), although never in a balcony cabin. I have never had a problem with noise coming from the next cabin through the doors. Once in a while I have heard some soft, muffled sound, but nothing to speak of, and it has been through the walls as much as anything. Remember, in connecting cabins, it's double doors between them. I can't fathom why smoke would be a concern for connecting cabins, as smoking in cabins is no longer allowed on HAL ships.
FoghornLeghorn Posted August 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2012 I had a connecting stateroom on The Westerdam in March, heard nothing. It was a family with two children in the connecting room.
Boytjie Posted August 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2012 We have had connecting VD cabins on the Zuiderdam, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam (same cabin) and it was never an issue.
