CruiseCrew123 Posted August 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2012 We used euros when in Agadir. Think you'll find they will accept anything !
tbo+wife Posted August 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2012 They will accept euros or stirling. We were advised that if you exchange money into Moroccan currency you cannot exchange it back as it is a non negotiable currency:)

We were advised that if you exchange money into Moroccan currency you cannot exchange it back as it is a non negotiable currency:) Isn't "non negotiable currency" a contradiction in terms ? I would take a second opinion on that. Our local Cheque Centre can get just about any foreign currency on the planet and will accept it back under normal conditions - no coins being the main restriction. We were advised that roubles could not be obtained outside of Russia as it was a closed currency - we got ours with no problem.
CRUISIN LINDA Posted August 30, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2012 We were told it was a closed currency and when we had a holiday in Morocco, we had to queue up at the airport to cash it in. They then paid us out in Euros

We've always used Euro's and there's never seem to be a problem.
WeeCountyMan Posted September 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2012 I called the local Cheque Centre this morning - they will sell up to a 1000 Moroccan dirhams (approx. £71) over the counter, and buy back as well. In theory you can't buy this currency outside Morocco, and you are not allowed to import or export it - however the practice is obviously something different. Apparently it's very difficult to convert back to Euros or Sterling once you've left the country. If other normal outlets like travel agents and banks won't deal in this currency, it's probably a policy decision based on the official Moroccan government position.
