Help! Transfer from FLL to Miami Port and back

We are flying into FLL at 9:30am the morning of our cruise departure and am wondering if its best to take a taxi (4 of us total: Myself, husband and 2 kids) or should we get on a shuttle to get us to the departure dock in Miami?

What shuttle service if that is the route we should go?

Also, when we return from our cruise our flight does not leave until 8:00pm that evening so we would like to find something to do instead of going right to airport. Could anyone give some recommendations of how to arrange this? We would like to do some sightseeing or excursion?

Thank you very much! :)

At taxi from FLL to POM will run you about $80. A shuttle service like SAS, QLS or Go Shuttle is about $15 pp. They are all very reputable and you can book with them directly online.

With such a late flight, I would rent a car and do your own sightseeing. There are lots of discount codes on these boards and online. Some car rental agencies (Hertz, Alamo, Thrifty to name a few) have free shuttles from POM to their office and then return at FLL.

Keep reading the Florida Departure Boards. There is lots of info on it to help you.

Enjoy your cruise.

We used sas in August. Our flight was delayed, and when I called they said no problem - they would monitor it. They were there as soon as we were ready for them! The van used to pick us up was very roomy and clean! Awesome service!

How long does it take to get from Ft Lauderdales airport to Miamis port? Thinking of booking a flight that gets in at 11am for a 5pm cruise departure. Will we have plenty of time?

NOOOOOO! the smart cruiser always arrives at least one day early to avoid missing the ship. What if your flight is delayed due to weather, crew or mechanical issues. What if you make th eflight but your luggage is lost or delayed?:( A 5:00 PM sailing usually means you need to check in by 3:00-3:30 at the latest - you are not leaving yourself enough margin for error.

Fly in the night before or at least take the very first flight of the day and arrive as early as possible -- and buy some trip insurance to cover the cost of the cruise you might miss. ;)

Good luck! :)

Absolutely, we always fly in a day before, too many what ifs.

The smart traveler flies in the day before. Also, you have invested so much into your cruise vacation, insurance makes sense, but with a caveat.

You would still need to be able to make and pay for hotel/air arrangements to meet the ship at the next port of call. As the insurance would reimburse you 4-6 weeks later
