First timer with no ideas

we are now looking only at AMA and AVALON....it is for the fall of '14 so we have time....

 

how do these two compare? if anyone has done them both, can you please chime in here?

 

We have not done both. We have done 5 with Viking and always had a good experience. We did one with Avalon and were not as pleased--more charges for side trips and poor communication with the local guides. We have known people who took AMA and Uniworld and heard good things about them.

Hi, we are new to River cruising. We are considering booking one of the less expensive cabins on the lowest level of the :confused::confused:ship. Has anyone had experience with this location? I am specifically concerned about engine or other noise, vibrations, or odors that may be disruptive or bothersome. We are close to booking a loft cabin on Tauck but do not want to be unhappy if the environment is unpleasant. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

The engines are at the back end, and on the lower level they usually put the crew cabins at the back -- so any passenger cabins should not suffer from engine noise or vibration. Many posters on CC report being very happy with these cabins, even with only the "aquarium" high windows -- so the Tauck loft cabins should be especially nice.
