moai Posted May 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2004 I saw mention here about people who donated things to an orphanage in Roatan during their port day there, so I inquired about places in the southern Caribbean ports that might need supplies donated by cruise ship passengers. I found out about HERO in Antigua, we emailed the directors of the program, hoping to get a current "needs" list. If anyone else is interested, here is the email they sent back. http://heroantigua.com/safehaven.html Our organization houses families for 3-6 months and helps them to get back on their feet. We also are the only Safehaven emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. At this time, we are beginning a home for children, especially boys (as the island has no alternative for young boys who have no caregivers). This summer, we are running several weeks of camping experiences and we always need items for sponsored children. Our needs vary, but listed below are items that we always can use. If the potential sponsor wishes to visit HERO when he arrives, I will organize to pick him up at the cruise ship. He will need to send a list ahead of items he is bringing so we can arrange for a duty free provision. Needs include: New children's underwear--all sizes, for boys and girls, Toiletries such as deodorant, shampoo, baby powder, toothpaste and toothbrushes, single bed sheets--fitted and flat, light colours, colourfast, light cotton material for curtains and clothing items, diapers, baby formula, children's pain reliever, children' vitamins, pre-natal vitamins, beach towels, various sizes bathing suits. Thank you for your interest, and please let me know if you need more information.
