Iv just booked for next Oct on QE2 and noticed on the Oct 30th Both QE2 and QM2 are in Southampton, where will QE2 dock that day? will she be at her regular berth at the QE2 terminal? guess it will make for a busy port day!!!

cheers Myles

On our April 16 QM2 crossing, the QE2 was at the usual Cunard terminal (called Queen Elizabeth II, I believe), while QM2 was at the Mayflower terminal, about half a mile upriver. This was clearly the P&O terminal, with photos of many P&O ships everywhere. As we stepped onto the pier after check-in and security, we could see the QE2 at her dock. Then, later it was thrilling to watch from the QM2's forward observation deck as we sailed past the QE2, shortly after which QE2 followed behind all the way down the river, along the Isle of Wight and then out into the English Channel.

Thanks Colin,Transatlantic Tom & mncyclist

Not away till next year, so its a long time to wait, Only asked as last year the Caronia was in port as well as a P&O ship, they were all very fortunate to sail by us as we left last! and sailed gracefully away.

cheers!!!

Hi Charles (mncyclist),

Lost touch with you and not got your email address. Can you email me on ag.frost@ntlworld.com ?

Yes, you are accurate. QE2 had just returned from her world cruise and was on the QE2 Terminal while QM2 was further up at the Mayflower Terminal. I don't know why this was. As about 600 passengers from QE2 were transferring to QM2 and she was embarking over 2000 passengers maybe the Mayflower Terminal is better able to handle the numbers. Maybe it was for presentation. It certainly was impressive being on the observation deck on QM2 that evening and passing the QE2 with both ships' horns sounding loudly. In the Royal Navy it is customary for the junior ship to salute the senior ship as it passes and then the senior ship acknowledges on either horn or by whistle. If similar in the merchant navy then this would not have been possible if QE2 had been passing the more junior QM2.

To look back over the stern of QM2 as we sailed down the solent and see QE2 slip her berth and then follow us down and into the open sea was truly a 'life experience'.

Hope this helps Cunardqueen and look forward to hearing from you Charles.

When both Queens were in Southampton together in Spring/Summer 2004, QM2 was at QEII terminal and sailed first, and QE2 was at Mayflower and sailed 15-30 minutes later. A great disappointment after travelling down to Southampton hoping to get them in the same frame!!!

Ah....but what a send off they gave QE2, in particular. There were more boats and hoopla on the river with even more heartfelt enthusiasm than even QM2 would receive.

QE2 was headed off to Germany that day for her refurbishment and what seemed, at the time, a more definitive end of her transatlantic service.

Hi Crouton

No, I didn't mean after the tandem crossing. They were together again last year after that - got the feeling it was June???? QM2 was off to NY and QE2 to Norway (I think).
