Avis car rental Skagway

Skagway is organized in a rectangular shape, with the narrow width parallel to the cruise ship docks. So think of Skagway as being narrow but long.

We rented a car from Avis in 2011, and at that time it was a 15 minute walk (maximum) from where our ship was docked. Due to a fire the Avis location has changed, but it is my understanding that it is still very close to the cruise ship docks. Unless someone in your party has mobility problems, it should be an easy walk for most.

Princess, many times is the second ship back on the RR dock. With any mobility limitations, get the gulf cart ride to the end of the dock and wait, (providing you are not the driver. Able bodied can walk to the office and can drive back and get you.

http://www.skagway.com has a downtown map with the details. Avis had moved back to their old office, across from the Westmark on Third last year. But verify that, easy to ask anyone on the dock.

My sister and I walked it last year and I would say its about 1to 1 1/2 miles but a scenic walk and not up hill. Our brother has trouble so he waited on the boat and we came back and parked at the end of the pier area and picked him up. Really quite easy to do, on our day it was raining but still wasnt an issue. Be aware they are in a hotel/motel type of building and are the last room on the end near the street. We got in line by 7:45 had our car and brother by 8:20.:)
