Port Canaveral - relaxed beach, wildlife preserve and/or kids playground

Hello everyone,

We will be going on the Carnival Splendor to Port Canaveral in May.... me, H, kids (16, 6, 5) my SIL, BIL and their kids. We will be meeting my in-laws there and will rent a minivan so can drive anywhere but wouldn't want to go too far. A few things to consider

- my MIL isn't up for walking great distances

- there will be four young kids... so something to keep them occupied - playground, wildlife but theme parks and Space center are out

- a picnic area is a must... as are restroom facilities

Any ideas of where to go?

If you want to stay close to Port Canaveral after you rent the car take a short drive south on A1A to Cocoa Beach. Spend a few minutes shopping at Ron Jon's Surf Shop which is located right on A1A. After spending some time there walk one block east to a beautiful public beach located directly behind the store. There are some small stores located in the area where you can pick up drinks and the like. It's a nice place to spend a few hours while you are in the Port Canaveral area.
