Shopping in New Orleans

My friend and I are staying in New Orleans for 3 nights before catching a TA cruise to Rome.

We are 23 years old and LOVE TO SHOP!

My question is: we are staying in the downtown (warehouse) district at Residence Inn Downtown New Orleans, we don't have access to a car... So will be relying on public transportation and taxis- are we near a shopping mall or more importantly a Target/Walmart?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

The closest Wal-Mart is 2 miles according to Google Maps. I would strongly advise against even considering walking to it. Public transportation is available, but I would advise against that as well. If you must go, I would take a taxi.

The closest Target is about 8 miles according to Google Maps, across the river in Harvey. You would need to get a taxi to go.

As much as I love my hometown, it is really not a shopper's paradise. Canal Place is a high-end mall, anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue. There is a mall across the river (about 4 miles via taxi or public transportation), but really, I would not plan on doing any mall-type shopping in NOLA. Smaller boutiques are a better option.

Hi Jewels,

I would highly recommend you spending a leisurely morning or afternoon walking down Royal St. In the French Quarter. It is filled with trendy boutiques, art galleries and yes, tourist shops. Halfway through stop at Pat O'Brien's for a Hurricane then up and at 'em :D.

Enjoy New Orleans!

Jorge

Thanks so much for the information!! She was hoping to get some clothes before we set sail! I will tell her to bring everything that she needs.

Thanks so much for all of the helpful information!
