Victoria in the evening.

Recommended Posts

I was on the website for the Gardens and saw that they close at 5pm. That's the same time we dock. HAL shows only a daytime tour offered.

As for restaurants...I'm really open to suggestions. Nothing too extravagent or expensive. One of the girls on the trip is a pretty picky eater so I don't think she would enjoy anything that is too out of the norm. Good atmosphere. Are there restaurants that a younger (20s/30s) crowd gravitates towards?

If you are into the pub crawl, there is a harbor ferry service that has a pub crawl type package ..... http://www.victoriaharbourferry.com/tours-services/pickle-pub-crawls

We will be with a young group age wise....a 7 , 10 , 14 , 17 and 20 yr old as well as 4 adults. Any suggestions in the harbor area for us?

For Dinner one kid friendly place that is kind a fusion restaurant that mixes south-west with sea food is Santiago's (660 Oswego). Very kids friendly and the food quite good.

For things to do I would suggest the Royal British Columbia Museum. (http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/) They are normally closed at 5:00 pm. I am not certain if they adjust their hours or not for cruise ships.

Try Barb's fish and chips down on fishermans wharf, it is on the walking route to downtown Victoria. It is outside eating. There is a number of eateries there or just grab a coffee. Try google http://fishermanswharfvictoria.com/

Walk around the wharf and see the unique boat houses. You can also catch the harbour ferries from fishermans whart - check the maps, times and schedules for info http://www.victoriaharbourferry.com/tours-services/water-ballet. I am quite sure they operate in the early evening as long as it is light out. It is a flat easy walk from the cruise ships at Ogden point to downtown. If you don't want to venture far this is right beside the cruise ship dock - easy walk, great view of the water http://www.ogdenpoint.org/ and there is a little café there as well

Walk thru the Empress Hotel, lots of great historic pictures, and a grand hotel.

or take a cab to Romeos at 1703 Blanshard the best spaghetti and meat balls and reasonably priced. About 10 minute drive from Ogden Point - but still in the downtown core.

Enjoy you trip

We will be in Victoria the first week of May between 7pm -12am. I booked an evening whale watching tour through our cruise line. Has anyone done that before? I heard it does not get dark until around 9pm, I hope we are able to see whales at that time.

Should be between 8 and 9 pm. The following web site is operated by National Research Council of Canada (federal Science Organisaiton) If you select Victoria, and the specific date it will give you the sunset time for the specific date you are in Victoria.

There's also Red Fish Blue Fish, it's a funky seafood take out on one of the warfs in the Inner Harbour. It's an old cargo container that serves excellent fish and Chips along with many different "tacones" and other goodies. Google it for the menu, always a big line up though. Had lunch there yesterday and it was great.

Butcharts is my all time favourite place in Victoria (we live 5 minutes away) but it is a ways from town if you are bussing. We love to wander the downtown, so many great restaurants, shops and pubs. The Bard and Banker or Irish Times are two really good pubs.

Be prepared to get wet. Make sure you have an umbrella and rain jacket.

I'd recommend walking if nice weather, or else taking a cab and getting dropped off at the inner harbour. Start your journey at the front of the Parliament Buildings, and head north along the Empress hotel and up government street. There are 2 great pubs, both very English. One is called "The Bard and Banker" and the other is "Irish Times". From there, cut through Bastion Square to Wharf Street and head south back to the Inner Harbour.

Alternatively, nice 2 hour bus tour will take you around to all the city highlights.
