AMAPrima Maiden Voyage

We are sailing on December 8 for the Christmas Markets Cruise. Can't wait to hear more. Since it won't exactly be pool weather, we hope you post pictures of the enclosed lounge areas, and dining venues. It's nice to hear the crew is so accommodating. We are all anxious to know about any and all tips to remember as all of us take our turns cruising the Prima. It sounds like we have made a great choice for a first river cruise,:D

We were one of the first groups of passengers on the new Amaprima. The ship was beautiful and more importantly, the staff was wonderful. We started in Budapest after being met at the airport by Ama staff. We were in our room almost as soon as we arrived on board at around 10 am. We had a French balcony room that was smallish, but very functional. The public areas of the ship were great. The food was delicious and the people we met during meals was one of the highlights of the trip. The cruise director, Rachel, was terrific. Kinda reminded me of Charo from a while back. It was nice having daily excursions included in the fare. We only paid extra for two outings - an orchastra concert in Vienna and a folk dinner and show in Prague. We started in Budapest and sailed to Vilshofen and then were bussed to Regensberg and on to Prague for 3 days. Rachal accompanied us for the whole trip.

The one downside was the weather - rain, or the threat of rain for 12 1/2 days of the 14 we were in Europe. We spent 3 days in Munich before flying to Budapest. HOWEVER, a day or two after we got home we read about the major flooding on the Danube which would have been a MAJOR bummer . . . even to the point of cancelling the trip as they did this week. We were escorted from Prague to the airport by Ama staff and taken right to the checkin gates. I have only GOOD things to say about are Danube River cruise on the Amaprima. My wife and I are retired, active adults and it seemed many of our fellow passengers were likewise.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you got lucky with the flooding situation, the Danube crested in Budapest today!

I have a question about the excursions; it sounds like the included excursions are mostly by day and the optional ones are at night? We start in Budapest and move east, so I am wondering what sorts of excursions will be offered!

Both optional (at extra cost) excursions we went on were in the evening. There were often several different excursions each day but I'm not sure if any of them were at extra cost.

I felt the Vienna concert and the Prague folk dinner and show were well worth it.

Sounds good!

KLRDUKS will look for your review- is it possible they don't even have the ship listed yet, therefore it's taking a while to get that organized? Just did a quick look and it's not listed! That's probably why you haven't seen it. Hopefully it's not lost forever and they will get the new ships listed!

If anyone has any additional detail questions, I would be happy to answer them.

I just have one thing to say about your review:

In case you're wondering, my kids tell me that means, "I agree whole heartedly."

Is this a criticism? I thought KLRDUKS review was great! I loved all the details and even asked a few more questions on your thread. :o. I hope no one is criticizing and that I am just clueless as to what the pp was trying to say! So many folks ask questions and research here, I would never want to discourage anyone from adding their reviews!

Edited : oh I see now, this is teen speak- yeah, I have a couple of those at home too and often they don't make any sense to me - sorry!:o:p
