Sun Princess Fijian Jewels review published

Recommended Posts

My fairly long review of our recent fairly short Sun Princess cruise has just been published. Noticed I missed some funny typos including the 'cabin' instead of 'captain'. Note to Pete - do not do things when you're so tired...

I'll expand the review into my usual travel blog, with pictures, on travlepod over the next week.

Cheers

Love your review, Pete. :) We also scored a BC midship - on Caribe - Andy was our steward on the NZ cruise (B211) and helped us move down to C412 (where we were met by the ever-smiling and helpful Maria Riza) while the ship was in Brisbane.

Agree wholeheartedly about long, tall Angus :D, the CSM. We were near the back of the queue that got him to change his mind, lol. Don't think his smile muscles worked all cruise. There were a few grumps amongst the general crew members who were mostly sent to different sections for the Fiji voyage. One outstandingly rude person was Gianni, a supervising waiter who was put in charge of the pizzeria. He was offending people by ordering (not requesting) them to queue at the casino entrance and then proceeding to actually throw the menus on the tables for them. He was soon sent back to Horizon Court.

We thought the buffet food was not as varied on the Fiji cruise as it was on the NZ one before, and there weren't as many themed lunches there, either. The DR food was all delicious, we liked the Rhapsody Trio (very talented) and we did enjoy both our cruises - can't wait for the next. :)

Hi Pete,

Happy Belated Birthday and welcome to the "50's Club" - lol! Remember, it is just a number on a piece of paper!!

We cruised with you on the two nighter from Brisbane to Sydney last March, and it was also our first time on Sun Princess.

So pleased to hear you had a terrific cruise, and also a wonderful birthday.

We need to travel to Sydney soon, and we hate flying from the Sunshine Coast, so when we saw the opportunity to cruise on Sea Princess, naturally we jumped at the opportunity, so we are off once again on a short journey!!

Loved your review and could relate to it!!

Hope you are enjoying your new bathrobes!!

I'm battling a cold at the moment Nicki so the bathrobe has been keeping me nice and warm! Thanks for the birthday wishes too :)

We will do more coastals, they're a great weekend away.

Happy cruising

Pete

Regarding the CSM - I've typed he should be retained when I meant retrained. Regarding our bridge tour two typos - ridge should be bridge and cabin should be captain.

More of our thoughts on the entertainment. I'm thinking I might ask the moderators to remove my first review so that I can upload the updated (and correct one)

The entertainment was TERRIBLE. If we hear Brown Eyed Girl or Nutbush City Limits once more in our lives it will be a lifetime too soon. You couldn’t escape the cheesy music played by Derringer or Walking Miracles. Poolside, Wheelhouse Bar, Atrium. Same old same old every time. They were good musicians, just their play lists were rubbish. I wonder if they play what the cruise director tells them to? If they do, then he needs to walk the plank and be replaced with someone who can cater for the tastes of all passengers and not just those over 70. Our running joke was there any music on the ship from this century.

The remainder of the entertainment was also seriously lacklustre. A sing-a-long pianist that drew a crowd of over 70s in the atrium each night who was both out of tune and out of talent. Zero music played in hallways. No music played around the pool unless Derringer or Walking Miracles were repeating the same old songs for the lunch hour sets. The only ‘sounds’ by the pools were the underwater noises from the nature shows on endless repeat on the MUTS screen.

Total under or miss-use of the MUTS. Old concerts and movies in prime time, night after night. Golf chipping into the spa contests day after day after day. Carpet bowls in the atrium.

Don’t get us started on Shooting Stars. It’s an awkward space made more unpleasant by a total inability, or willingness, by the DJ to play music from the last ten years, let alone the last year.

Special acts – didn’t bother with any of them. A Tom Jones impersonator? Please.

Production shows – ok, as far as these things go – good musicians, good musical arrangements, ordinary lead singers, good female dancers, terrible (on the whole) male dancers. Keep your eye out for the outfit worn by the lead male towards the end of British Invasion. His pants left nothing to the imagination. I’m glad we weren't sat right in front.

Talk about an eyeful.
