cruisinlawn Posted May 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Curious of the pax makeup during Mar/Apr. We are undecided on a 7day Caribbean aboard Reflection or Sihouette during one of these months. In the past we always avoid Mar/Apr do due detractors on 7 day (or less) sailings with RCL, CCL or the like. Not that we dislike the younger set, we have our own but do like our adult time. So, on a 7 day Carib aboard one of the two above mentioned ships, would we encounter a large # of college students in March or grade school in April? Fire away. TIA :) I will add, our April 10-day Carib sailing on Equinox was one of the best sailings we've encountered in 20+ sailings.
Nibby1 Posted May 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2013 We did a B2B on the Silhouette this past Spring (March 31 and April 7). At least one of these was Spring Break for the public schools and probably for the college age also. If there were a lot of children on board, they were well-behaved and we didn't even encounter very many. If there were college students, we also didn't observe any problems. Both legs (Eastern and Western Caribbean) were wonderful trips and I believe you would have a wonderful cruise on either itinerary. Good luck with your planning. Rare ghstudio Posted May 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2013 The answer is somewhat obvious....yes,there will be a significant number of kids/young adults on a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean during spring break time which of course varies because schools and colleges all break at differrent times. The longer cruise will have less. Generally kids/young adults are well behaved but that's generally, not always.....so it's a bit of luck of the draw. If the kids get out of hand and the parents don't rein them in....the outcome is generally not great. Good luck
Lsimon Posted May 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2013 I can't add much to the direct question as we haven't done a 7 day cruise in March or April. But keep in mind that younger college aged students can not sail on Celebrity without their parents unless they are over 21. Naturally there will be more children on board during periods of school breaks then there will be when schools are in session. I will say that if there is any way you can swing a 10 or longer cruise then you'll find that the longer the cruise the fewer school age children and it falls off very rapidly as the length of the cruise changed from 7 to 10 to 11+ days. You'd be doing yourself a favor as well as even a 10 day cruise, which just cuts out two additional work days, seems so much longer and more relaxed than a 7 day cruise. We just took our first Celebrity Caribbean cruise during the week of April 13 - 20. Every year for the past 10 years we have taken a cruise during the school vacation week in New England which typically includes the week of the Massachusetts holiday, Patriots' Day. We also cruise during the summer school vacation months. Our cruise on the Summit this past April had the fewest children we have ever encountered on a cruise! The only time we saw young children was the afternoon they were marched through the buffet area accompanied by the crew that runs the children's program. At that, there only seemed to be about 50 kids. In speaking with other guests on this particular cruise, we agreed that our demographic ( ages 50 and up) made up the largest group onboard. Generally we expect to have children and teens on the cruises we book, and we've never viewed that as a "problem." Again this was our first Celebrity cruise, so someone with more experience may have a different view. Celebrity's target audience seems to be more senior than junior cruisers. Our experience supports that. Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide. April is a great time to be in the Caribbean especially after a winter that refuses to end!
