bunnyrab Posted May 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2013 Cabin 760 Maasdam. Is it unreasonable when paying for ocean view window to expect the window to have a clear view? It couldn't be any cleaner but both sides of window had a coating (like a shellac around about 25% of each window) the left window also had a lot of salt buildup. I sometimes like to sit between both beds (twin setup) and look out at the sea or even watch the sunset with a glass of wine. We take late dining. The only good view was standing up.

CruiserBruce Posted May 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 23, 2013 So how was the food? The service? The entertainment? The ports?
Oceanwench Posted May 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2013 You should get the accommodations you pay for. The food, service, entertainment and ports -- whether good, bad or mediocre -- are irrelevant. The OP is commenting on the fact that the oceanview stateroom did not meet expectations. We once had an oceanview stateroom on Volendam. It had a public staircase right in front of it. Should have been categorized as obstructed view. RuthC Posted May 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 23, 2013 I would expect a window down near the water line to have a lot of salt residue on it, yes. It can only be washed when in port, and then only in the ports where it's allowed. Next time at sea---it's back again.
wander Posted May 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2013 I second what Ruth so clearly said.
bunnyrab Posted May 24, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted May 24, 2013 I would expect a window down near the water line to have a lot of salt residue on it, yes. It can only be washed when in port, and then only in the ports where it's allowed. Next time at sea---it's back again. The window was extra clean. When parked dockside we placed a box of tissue in window so we could check it from outside. There was no need. Ours was the only window on our floor with so much build- up. The assistant guest relations officer came to see the window herself to see if it related to housekeeping or outside staff to fix the problem. They were going to try to clean it when it was on dock side but it took them so long that couldn't happen till Montreal. End of cruise. We finally figured out the salt build-up was in between a double paned window. On Rotterdam we once saw them change a cabin window in Tahiti.
