On top of the cheers program my husband and I spent an additional $400 on booze. Good times. Lol

just asking, not judging, so is that $1200 on booze? did you pay $400 each for the Cheers program and then another $400 on extra booze? what did you buy extra that you could not/did not get on Cheers?

Yeppers we spent $1200 total on booze. $800 ($400pp) for cheers and additional $400 at the club buying our new friends drinks/shots and some of our drinks once we hit 14. Only 3 of the days/nights we hit 14. If you buy drinks for friends at full price it does not count as a part of your 15.

So you can just tell them your going to buy a drink for a friend at anytime and they charge you full price and it doesn't effect your 15 Max?

It depends on what county you are in. Could be as high as 7%.

We were on the Legend in January and got the Cheers package. The local tax only applies to individual drinks and not to the entire drink package. When you get your final tab, any drinks purchased within the taxable perimeter will be less than $1 per drink and itemized on your tab. Buy as soon as you get on the ship and enjoy!

Think I found my answer...

What is the "Cheers Beverage Program"?

Cheers Beverage Program!

Important Note: This is on a trial basis only, presently on the Carnival Victory, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream, Carnival Conquest; Carnival Legend; Carnival Valor; Carnival Miracle, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Magic, Carnival Pride and Carnival Glory, Carnival Sunshine and the Carnival Liberty.

Under the Cheers Beverage Program!, guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate.

Guests can sign up for the Cheers Beverage Program at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or the bar at the main pool area.

Note: This program is not available on chartered sailings.

Here's the link where I found it:

ok here it is with the price change - It really only comes down to a difference of 8.05 a day

If you are a straight domestic beer drinker ($5.75/drink plus gratuity-6.61) it will take 9 beers (in a day) to break even. Then you will basically get beers 10 through 15 in a day free. Saving you up to $33.05/day.

If you are a Grey Goose Martini drinker ($9.95/drink plus gratuity-11.44) it will take 5 (in a day) to break even. Then you will get martinis 6 through 15 in a day free. Saving you up to $114.16/day.

Domestic Beer Grey Goose Martini

With out Cheers Cost of 15 with Gratuity / Day Beer-$99.15 Martini-$171.64

With Cheers Program with Gratuity / Day ($57.44) ($57.44)

Possible Savings / Per Day $33.05 $114.16

Now remember to take into account that this will differ greatly by what you drink. Straight Domestic Beer- Yuck!!!! 15 Grey Goose Martinis - YIKES!!!

I still stand by the fact that we will def get out monies worth, whether we make the 15 or not.

I also saw on someones post, if they didn't think they were making their 15 that day, they would order unopened beers and just bring em back to their room for another time. Having a few beers in the fridge and opening one drinking it on the balcony while someone else is getting ready sounds like a great idea to me

On every thread on this subject people keep bringing up a tax. There is not a tax on the cheers program. In most ports they charge sales tax on the ship until you reach international waters. So, each drink you purchase has a tax on it. This applies to everyone, not cheers program specific. On the cheers program, you have already paid for your drinks, so you are only charged the tax. If not on the cheers program, you are charged, the drink price, the 15% tip and the sales tax.

We just cruised in May and purchased the cheers card. We found the loop hole. If you stop at 14 drinks and then pay for your drinks after that you do not get cut off. If you reach your 15 limit with the cheers card you are done even if you want to purchase a drink.

I don't get why Carnival arbitrarily cuts folks off at 15. Other lines dont have this problem. Are Carnival cruisers more apt to get out of hand? I never thought so.

We did the program last year on the Splendor, before price increase total $693 for two. We felt we got our money's worth even though we never hit the 15, close some days. Our next cruise is the Breeze 8 day and it looks like we would be paying $904 total or something close to that. We have four ports and just think that is too high. So back to bringing on wine and rum runners and buying a few drinks here and there. I'm not a big drinker anyway. I just wanted the opportunity to try new drinks and I did.

ok, I haven't done this program but we are considering it.

I LOVE pina coladas.

It says non alcoholic frozen drinks are included, so that would mean I would have to get a virgin pina colada?

THis thing is so confusing! LOL

Also, what are the advertised drinks that aren't included?

Is there a list?

No you could get a regular pina colada, actually you could get up to 15 regular pina coladas! There's no list because EVERYTHING under $10 is included, the "list" would be essentially, the same as the little card they have at the various bars.

We were on Victory last month and I drank, on a average day,

* a mimosa or vodka and OJ for breakfast

* 3-4 Mai Tais or Strawberry Daquiris during the day

* a Johnny Walker Black with soda before dinner

* a glass or two of wine with dinner (this was the wife, I don't drink very much wine)

* Bailey's & coffee after dinner

* 2-3 Mai Tais or Strawberry Daquiris watching the show/hanging out listening to music or gambling in the Casino

We never ordered or wanted to order anything that wouldn't be covered by the Cheers program. My wife tried a slew of different Drinks-of-the-day and other new drinks.

We paid $574 for the two of us and when they slipped the "bill" under the door on the last night, the two of us had consumed 87 drinks over the five day cruise. So we paid $6.59 each on average. Since the stuff we were drinking was considerably more expensive than $6.59, we made out.

We never got drunk, and never hit out 15 drink limit so it was a REALLY good deal for us.

Oh, and since the Cheers Program (I call it the "liquor sticker") includes sodas, and we had 2-3 sodas each on any given day, I suppose you should probably deduct the cost of the soda sticker from the Cheers cost too.

Anyway, my point is that you don't have to get falling down drunk every day to derive a benefit from the program.

Non-alcoholic drinks and sodas do NOT count against the 15 drink limit - that's the maximum number of drinks with alcohol that you can get. At their current drink pricing, once you pass the fifth or sixth drink (beer, wine, liquor) in a day, you're at the "break even" or "go ahead" level. To "make it pay" on inport days, you'll have to do make-up drinking once you're back on board, or have a couple of Bloody Mary's, Screwdrivers, or Mimosas with breakfast...just sayin'

Just cruised last Saturday, June 1st. It was 49.95 x 7 days 349.65 plus 15% gratuity. We paid 402.10 total.

WOW!!! That sounds ridiculously expensive to me. I'll be going on a 7 day with family but I'll only be rooming with my toddler. I was considering purchasing it for my funship specials and juices for her but now forget it. I'll pack her favorite juices, my favorite wine, and simply pay out of pocket. There's no way it'd be worth it for me. I'd never drink $50 worth of drinks in one day. :/

First off...THANK YOU for responding and clarifying!! :-)

Second, you're awesome!!

Third, JWB is one of my favorites and your list of drinks you were having is my kind of list!! Great choices! I may just have to mimic your routine!! HAHA!! :D

Thank you for all the details. You definitly clarified all my questions!

OK, so if I get the cheers program and hit the alcoholic level limit ... I can still get pop on the cheers program and that covers it or I pay seperate for that?

You also need more than 15/day if you share.

What part of "per person" means you can share? There is no sharing Cheers allowed. People that share are why it's a) gone up, b) has a limit, and c) no longer available on HMC.
