Cruise Gopher Posted July 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2013 I was trying to book the Sheraton Old San Juan for the night of December 13th, 2013 for our cruise but it appears that they enforce a two night min stay. Is there any way to get around this? I.e. call the hotel directly to book? We would really like to stay there but we won't be in San Juan for two nights pre cruise. If you find a way, please let me know because I'd like to stay there too but only need one night. Maybe as you get closer if they have availability they may waive it. Hopefully someone will come back and let us in on the secret :)
texancruzer Posted July 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2013 December is extreme high season..... many hotels have minimum night stays for this time frame. The other poster has pretty much the only answer - wait until it gets ALOT closer and then call the hotel direct and ask if they have any availability for just the 1 night. Its not a great option but about the only one :(
bsdmhutch Posted July 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2013 To book online they have a minimum two-night stay no matter the time of year (we're going in September). Some of our group had success booking one night by calling the hotel directly - not the Sheraton Toll Free ressie number - The Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino Reservations 787-289-1914 reservations@sheratonoldsanjuan.com

Let'sGo! Posted July 17, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 17, 2013 I have also run into the 2-night minimum thing before in San Juan, but at a different property. The first time I was able to get around it by booking the hotel through my travel agent. They just added the cost to my final payment. The second time I called the hotel directly and told them we so enjoyed our stay there the last time we were in San Juan that we just had to stay there again! They waived the minimum. I just did the same thing again for our cruise in May of next year -- but this time I was able to do it by email because I found the person I had spoken to before on their website. I'm not saying this is ALWAYS going to work for you, but at least it's some suggestions to get you started. Good luck! Ann
girlscruise2011 Posted July 18, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 18, 2013 I heard back yesterday and this was their response Good Morning, The hotel has a two night minimum stay for arrivals on weekends. At this time it is over $300 a night even if I wanted to book for the 2 nights. Thats just a little too rich for my blood, especially needing 2 rooms
NCTribeFan Posted July 18, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 18, 2013 I booked it through Hotwire (my first attempt; details in the "stuck" thread at the top of the board for Priceline/Hotwire). I didn't see anything about a 2-night minimum, but I wanted 2 nights so I probably wasn't even looking. Got it for $116/night in mid-November. There are others in my Roll Call saying in OSJ but not at the Sheraton I stayed at the Courtyard Miramar last time pre-cruise for one night (got my first-ever Priceline bidding messed up) so wasn't where I wanted to be but it turned out to be just fine. Easy enough to get into OSJ. Stayed at the Marriott Stellaris for two nights post-cruise and thought about staying there for my pre-cruise this time. Really nice pool, great area to walk around in to all the restaurants. But I'm solo for this cruise and just wanted to pay one taxi fare and be where I could just wander around the old city for a couple of days and then drag my bags over to the pier. We'll be easy to spot -- probably the only ones with children - and children who look nothing like us for that matter. We rented an apartment in Caleta64 for four nights, planning on checking out OSJ with our kiddos. Excited!
cruisin'thrulife Posted July 23, 2013 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2013 I have been able to book 1 night only via hotels.com as a way around the 2 night minimum. While the website may require a 2 night minimum stay at first, as the time gets closer it generally reduces the minimum stay. This recently happened for my September stay; however, I have already booked through my credit card rewards and cannot change. Hope this info helps you. HAPPY CRUISING! There are many hotels that do that in resort areas or around special events/holidays. Sorry for your disappointment but you'll find something that works for you. San Juan is fabulous and worth the effort to be able to enjoy at least a little time there. Edited July 23, 2013 by sail7seas

monicajay Posted July 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Not just the Sheraton. There are many San Juan hotels that require a 2 night stay. Originally I was looking for one night on Feb. 28th and was having a tough time. In the end, when Jet Blue pricing came out we booked an evening flight on the 27th so now we have 2 nights and lots more hotel possibilities were open to us. In the end we have chosen the Best Western Suites for now with an AARP discount rate. We'll keep watching for a better deal.
cruisin'thrulife Posted July 30, 2013 #17 Share Posted July 30, 2013 No, I stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan at 100 Brumbaugh Street last September for one night only and am staying there again for my cruise this September. While I am staying 2 nights this time, I checked the other website a couple of weeks ago and was able to book for one night only. Good Luck! We are already staying two nights before our cruise but this is something that maybe they changed recently?

aimodels Posted July 31, 2013 #20 Share Posted July 31, 2013 I have always found Sheraton OSJ to be a little pricey. I have been successful booking only for one night (usually Saturday) but it was through our travel agent. Also, my agent always manages to get me a better price then contacting the Sheraton directly or booking online. Perhaps other hotels in OSJ can offer you a better deal, or as TexanAnn suggests, just butter them up a little... :) Cheers, P:)
TYTY Posted August 1, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 1, 2013 I had a reservation for 2 nights but wanted to change it to 1 night and they wouldn't let me. So I cancelled the entire reservation and am staying somewhere else. Too bad because they just lost a customer.
mimi-papa Posted August 4, 2013 #22 Share Posted August 4, 2013 I was able to book one night at the Old San Juan Sheraton for our cruise in Sept. I sent an email to reservations@sheratonoldsanjuan requesting one night and I received confirmation several days later. I recently booked for the 3rd room and got a confirmation. We're there the night of 9/14 only (Sat.)

I sent an email to reservations@sheratonoldsanjuan requesting one night and I received confirmation several days later. I recently booked for the 3rd room and got a confirmation. We're there the night of 9/14 only (Sat.) I emailed them at that address directly and was told I needed a 2 night minimum for my stay in January 2014. Maybe they allowed it for you since you are close to sailing and they have availability or your not in their high season. I'd love to stay there but needing 2 rooms at their prices, its just too much over budget.
Nole0202 Posted August 10, 2013 #24 Share Posted August 10, 2013 There are more options, better rates and nicer hotels at the beach near the airport. All should accept 1 night. You can take a 10-minute taxi or the bus into OSJ for the afternoon or dinner, also the night life (large clubs & casinos) are at the beach.
