Have just booked Travel Insurance for this on Spirit, where we will be stopping off at Algeria. Very interested to find out that Algeria is not included in a standard Europe policy. We took the worldwide option, to avoid problems.

 

Has anybody done this trip before? Interested to know whether there is two Captains nights on 15 night cruise or just the one? (Two new ball gowns instead of one.:))

I'll have to check our policy now - I had suspicions Algiers might not be included.

 

It's not in Europe, but geographical coverage for travel insurance is not always entirely logical.

 

Algeria's interior has been plagued with significant Islamist terrorism in recent years - this will be an insurance exclusion for anybody intending to travel inland. The capital city of Algiers has been unaffected as far as I know, so it shouldn't be an issue for Thomsons daytrippers.

 

Incidentally - as flagged up earlier, you need a visa from the Algerian Embassy for DIY activities. If you opt for an organised Thomson deal a group visa will apply.

As it is North Africa, it isn't in europe and therefore not covered. Well spotted as this is easily overlooked and will have caught others out

I've just checked on our Nationwide Building Society provided travel insurance policy - it's Europe only - £20 to upgrade to worldwide cover.

 

Fortunately a separate credit card account gives us worldwide cover, so we are good to go.

 

I was advised to keep a watch on the Foreign Office website for travel to Algeria - see advice on city of Algiers.
