What to do on my own in Freeport with a 2yo?

We are headed to Freeport the first week of October. My son will just turn 2 the weekend we embark on our cruise. Hubby is doing his own excursion in Freeport which was a late birthday gift so that leaves me and DS on our own for the day granted its a short day. We are only docked from 7-1:30.

DS loves the beach and animals. Can anyone recommend something that I can do with DS on my own in Freeport? I don't want to stay on the ship or in the port area. I've considered cruise line excursions, but the price for the two of us is insane considering our limited time on the island. Can you please help with recommendations on things we can do?

You can grab a cab in the port area (these are shared vans, so they fill it up before departing) for $5 pp each way. Go to the Port Lucaya area. They usually drop you off near the casino at the Grand Lucayan. You can get a day pass for the beach for $15 (I think your son, being under 3, would be free). This gives you access to their pool, beach, chairs, etc. Spend a little time on the beach, then catch a cab back to the port. There is a straw market across the street from where they drop you off.
