Giorgi-one Posted August 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2013 We have taken several cruises out of Bayonne. Very easy getting to port, parking and embarkation. From what I have read leaving from NYC is a disaster. I left out of NYC once before and I remember that it took about one hour to go two blocks once we got near the ship. We were in a van and did not have to worry about parking. Sounds like every aspect of embarkation in NYC is a challenge. Can anyone provide info to the contrary? Novastar Posted August 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2013 That was not my experience last September. We took a cab from our Manhattan hotel and got to the pier around 11. We were dropped off right near the ship and gave our bags to a porter. Then went through security and checked in. Easy peasy.
PatJim Posted August 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2013 We live in Manhattan and enjoy taking cruises from here. Never cruised out of Bayonne, but we'll have to try it someday. We instruct the taxi to drop us off right in front of the entrance to our ship. Lots of porters to take our luggage. No wait. But then, we do like to board early, so we get to the terminal early.:)

tammy531 Posted August 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2013 We have always taken a limo from PA to the pier.. no issues. It is normally a 2 hour -2 hr 15 min drive for us to 42nd street...somehow the limo has us dropped off at the pier in about an hour and 45 minutes. Drops us off right out front then porters get our bags. We are driving this year...hope it goes as smooth and I don't regret that! sent from my Samsung galaxy s3
EBONI325 Posted August 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Never had any problems the 3 times i've left from nyc. I get to the pier around 11:30 or so, and have never run into any traffic. I live in nyc and come straight down the west side highway that put's us right as the pier.
youngestof9 Posted August 28, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I loved sailing out of NY. I sailed the day of the MS bike tour and it was crazy, but I still loved sailing from there. The views pulling out past the skyline and Lady Liberty were fantastic. Plus I ate breakfast at home and lunch onboard. Conversely, ate breakfast on my balcony and home by 11:00. Love it! boopsahoy Posted August 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Last January there was something going on in Manhattan which created terrible traffic getting to the pier. Took us twice as long as normal from Brooklyn. Also there were 3 or 4 other ships embarking, disembarking at the same time. It wasn't bad when I got there but I heard from other passengers that it got very hectic at one point. Also coming home from the same cruise we got in late due to a passenger having to be airlifted and it was a stampede getting off the ship. HOWEVER the other 3x I left from Manhattan I left my house at 11 and was eating lunch by 12-1230! So it all depends on the circumstances as with any port. We took the Mexican Riviera cruise from California (San Pedro?) and it was HORRIBLE! 4 hours to embark! We thought it was a one time thing so we took the same itinerary the next year and it was just as bad!
khaide612 Posted August 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I've only had traffic problems once or twice when dropping off or picking up from the NY pier and even then they were minor inconveniences and not huge delays. I have sat for 30-45 minutes dropping off passengers at Bayonne though.
sailingnut Posted August 28, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2013 I do not like Bayonne's set-up, you have to take a shuffle bus to the ship~~Nyc pier~~just get on the ship! I have been to Bayonne once and three time to the city pier!:)

I drove from Connecticut and had no problems getting to or leaving from the Manhattan cruise terminal, YMMV. SBtS

What limo company do you use to go from PA to the Manhattan Port? Also, do you mind sharing what the cost is? We may want to leave our vehicle in PA instead of driving and parking at the port. Thank you, Jamie

Thank you, Jamie Where in PA will you be? The company we used the last 2 times was out of Hawley...we live near Scranton and they came to us. We had a group of family then...11 the first time 13 the second so we were able to split it which made it affordable. This year it is just the 4 of us so not so affordable ....the cheapest quote I got was $575. There is another company out of Shavertown that is a van shuttle...I think $120pp round trip. I figured out the cost for us to drive is going to be $320 with tolls, gas and parking. If you are close to those I can give you names and numbers. sent from my Samsung galaxy s3
Brighton Line Posted August 29, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I don't get it, off the ship, grab bags, use porter to go lighting fast thru customs and immigration. I'm accross the street at the taxi stand and less 5 minutes the cab is rolling downtown. Don't even need to take a bus from the ship to get bags or anything. I thought it was less hectic than Miami with so many ships there.
