cruznon Posted September 1, 2013 #26 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Haven't sailed on Carnival for a few years. What is the amount the ship usually puts on hold on your card? Peddler&Tass, I do like the idea of a separate debit account to use on cruises... will check into that. Sounds like a great option.
Elustriah Posted September 1, 2013 #27 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We set ours up so we both used the same account. We put the cash down and we both drew from it. When we went in July they dont' give checks anymore for leftovers. Options are 1. Go down the night before and you can withdrawal the money from the sail and sign kiosk if there is any left. 2. They will mail a check 3. If it is under 5.00 it will be donated to St. Jude.
missorahbaby Posted September 1, 2013 #28 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I just get one of the prepaid debit cards, like from Walmart or wherever, and load however much money I am planning to use on there. That way any hold, or any mess-up, will not screw up my checking account. Works like a charm.

cruisinbanddirectors Posted September 1, 2013 #31 Share Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks! Think we will just go with cash. Now my next question is does the casino and bingo pay out in cash? Monique and Steve They put Bingo winnings on your Sail and Sign. But as soon as they actually get on your account you can go to Guest Services and cash that amount out. suzybeezy Posted September 1, 2013 #32 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I was doing my documents yesterday and took note of this section, copied as I've seen this question raised several times on here. Figured I'd copy their policy so I have it for reference in case anything gets goofed up on board. :) From the carnival check in process documents: Credit Card on Sign & Sail - Please provide the information below as it appears on your credit/debit card. Authorization will not be obtained until the day of the voyage; on the morning of sailing, the credit/debit card provided will be charged with an initial hold of $75 (for cruises 5 days or less) or $100 (for cruises 6 days or more). Throughout the cruise, incremental holds will be obtained as needed, applied by your card’s issuing bank. If any payment is given to replace the credit/debit card previously provided, the hold will remain on your account, as determined by your card’s issuing bank, which will reduce the amount of funds available on your credit/debit card. dixieva Posted September 1, 2013 #33 Share Posted September 1, 2013 I always use a credit card that I pay in full each month and it has a cash back feature so I'm earning points toward that. If you don't have a credit card you can use then I second the pre-paid debit card that you can buy several places. I think there is a small charge for it. If you do have a credit card you could use just put the cash aside at home that you would have used for a cash account and pay off the balance when you get the bill. Much easier, at least to my way of thinking.
