Economy hotels and Vancouver do not go together :):)

Vancouver is an expensive city to visit... Go on Hot Wire or a similar web site and get the best deal possible for your room but don't ruin your vacation by saving a few dollars per night and endng up way off the beaten path... Stay in what is called the "west end" of Vancouver where you are close to everything and the cruise ship terminal... Staying outside the area you will waste lots of precious time commuting and taxi fares are high...

What are thoughts on the Blue Horizon Hotel? Is it on the Canadian Line Skytrain to get from airport to this hotel? Then would it be a location that we could walk to Canada Place to get on our cruise ship and also a location to tour around the spots you suggested in the earlier post the day before cruise?

Thanks again so very much!!!

Blue Horizon is not available. Please advise on these two hotel options: Ramada Limited on Pender and Best Western Dowtown on Drake St. Same questions as above for getting to Canada Place and Skytrain from airport. Thanks so much!

Based on location...Ramada would be better...3 blocks to Waterfront station southbound (for airport) and 5 blocks to Canada place (cruise ship terminal).

The Best western hotel on Drake is on the other side of downtown so you would need a cab to the cruise ship (or a looong walk with luggage) or you could walk 5 blocks to Yaletown/Roundhouse station on the Canada Line and take it north to waterfront station - the cruise ship terminal is next door.

I have not read any reviews of the hotels in question so not sure if this is a significant factor.

Thanks so much! How about the location of Ramada in reference to getting to Stanley Park and the Aquabus to Granville Island?

Ramada closer to Stanley Park...short bus ride. Aquabus is on false creek...the other side of downtown.

Take a look at google maps...downtown vancouver is surrounded by water on three sides. To the north is Burrard inlet (coal harbour) which is a deep water port where the cruise ships and container ships come in under the Lions Gate bridge. To the north west is the pacific ocean (stanley park) and to the south is False creek (aquabus to granville island...which is not really an island in the true sense). Lots of trolley buses running down Granville street to get you from the Ramada to the aquabus at the base of Hornby st. Bus system is called Translink...http://www.translink.bc.ca

If I were choosing between the Ramada Limited on Pender and the Best Western - Downtown, the BW would win hands down. The Ramada is a very old hotel, which is a remodel and the neighbourhood to the east tend to get very seedy. The BW is a modern hotel, in a safe area just out of the Entertainment District, has a White Spot restaurant on the ground floor and offers a free shuttle to and from the cruise terminal. We often hear from cruisers as to how pleased they have been with the BW-Downtown.

Yes, there is a Canada Line (SkyTrain) station within about 6 blocks of the BW-Downtown...it will be slightly up hill. If you Google the hotel you will see a map and if you enlarge it you will see the station in relation to the hotel. There is lots of public transit on Granville St. that will allow you to connect to a bus going to Stanley Park....below is a link to a transit planner. You will likely just want to walk for the Aqua Bus station.

Will there be a Skytrain from the air port to the Best Western Downtown and also transportation to Aquabus and Stanley Park from BW? thanks!

From the airport take the Canada Line (the Skytrain line that serves the airport) to Yaletown/Roundhouse station. From there walk up Davie, left on Granville and one more block. about 600m total map:
