kind of a inset balcony, more privacy, close to the water. We had one in March on the Magic and loved it. Had 2 11 yr olds with us, so we would order pot of coffee and croussaints(sp) to be delivered. We would set and enjoy on the balcony until they woke up.

We were booked in a cove balcony but switched to a regular balcony on deck eight. We changed because tIhe cove balconys are not exposed to the sun and are dark. That is what a poster said.I was also worried about noise being on deck two

We were in a cove balcony on Magic in January 2012...we loved it...there was no unnecessary noise...it was close to the water and you can open it up to the cabin next to you if you want to...my brother and his wife were in the cabin next to us and we opened the metal door between us a few times.

Cove balconies are great! Just don't get one between the midship & aft elevators. Those are under the galley/kitchen, and could hear noise from it all night. We had one under the dining room, which was perfectly quiet. The balcony is within the hull of the ship, and I actually prefer this style to standard balconies. It's true that most of the coves don't get sun, but that's okay with a lot of people. And they are not dark. Shaded yes, but not dark. You are very close to the water, which is awesome! You actually feel like you're at sea. You could even see some critters swimming around. It's much better than being way up high, which is almost like flying in an airplane over water. The indoors part of the room is the same as standard balconies, but the coves have slightly more space outside.

On the 3 ships that have coves, the coves are the only balconies that look straight down to the water. There is an outdoor lanai on deck 5 on those ships that sticks out, so all non-cove balconies (which are all above Deck 5) look down on the lanai and not straight down to the water. It's a significant obstruction for Decks 6 & 7 balconies, as people walking on the lanai can easily see onto their balcony.
