Star Princess refurbished?

Does anyone know if the Star has been dry docked or refurbished? :confused: We are sailing on her 3/06 and curious to know how often they are updated. I think she was inaugurated in 2001.

Maintenance is an ongoing process, drydock or not. Princess keeps their ships in very good condition.

Thanks :D . I did notice as we were boarding the the Golden that the crew was painting and cleaning windows, and doing minor repairs to the outside of the ship. Just wondered how often they do a complete re-do?

Each line is a little different on this point. Decor changes occur every so often, usually once every five or six years just to freshen things up. A major refitting is another story, i.e., installing additional balconies, major expansions and additions to the ship, a stretch etc. Major refits are done as needed, but the Star is a new ship and I have not heard any reports of any major refits for princess. The older ships, like the regal, are rotated out of princess to other sister lines and are refitted process. Princess, being one of carnival corp.'s main brands, tends to get major new builds, the crown is coming, the emerald is on her way and there is another unnamed ship that been commissioned for 2008 or 2009 (sister to the Crown and Caribbean). The Star is one of the newer Grand Classes. The Grand and Golden would likely be refitted first, since they are older, but I am not aware of any plans to do this. All the Grands are being equipped with MUTS as they go into dry dock for routine maintenance and all of the Grands are beautiful and stylish ships. You're not going to get an old cruddy looking vessel. Most newly designed cars for 2001 still have the same shape in 2005. These ships cost over half a billion dollars. They are designed to hold of up for a while on all levels. Celebrity, which has some of the more elegant ships at sea, hasn't had a new build debut since the constellation in 2001 and that is a gorgeous ship. No worries.

Just got off the Star July 4th. It was in excellent condition and staffed with the nicest folks - especially in the Casino.

 

We had an inside cabin A228 - 12th deck - near the front of the ship.

 

After several cruises with cabins with balconies, I was amazed at how much I liked our cabin and did not miss the view to the outdoors. The cabin was spacious - with much storage - well laid out - the bathroom was big enough to comfortably move around - just an all around good design.

 

The ship was so clean that when I walked all the way to the other end of my floor to go to the laudromat (without shoes) my feet did not even get dirty. I found that amazing.

 

And another thing we were worried about - because we usually get cabins mid-ship - was whether we were going to feel the movement more.

 

Well, it was one of the smoothest ships I've been on. It was one of the quietest rooms.

 

The dining rooms are comfortably laid out - you don't feel like you are on top of the other tables - the staff doesn't seem to be always dodging you.

 

You will love the ship.

I believe the Star is too new for refurbishing. Maintenance yes, but probably not refurbishing.

I believe the Princess ships are regularly dry-docked every two years for maintenance that can't be done while the ship is in service.

 

While the ship is in service, rugs are constantly being replaced, painting is done, etc. This is routine and generally, doesn't disrupt the passengers.

i love princess cruises. i was on the star princess febuary 2005 and it looked like it just came out. even when we were in st. thomas they were painting and doing repairs. this goes on in every major port of call.
