Miami vs Fort Lauderdale airports?

When leaving out of Port of Miami, do you prefer flying into Fort Lauderdale or Miami airport? And why do you prefer one over the other and are there any advantages that you've experienced? Have read a lot of people do prefer FLL, curious as to why? Thanks for any past experiences with either airport, first time leaving from this port. :)

13cheermom,

We prefer FLL; normally it's cheaper, baggage claim and on the road is a lot quicker (We can fly in to FLL and get to POM faster than when we fly into MIA and get to POM), prior to landing there's less circling around waiting and less sitting on the runway before and after landing, less hectic checkin.

All things considered we'll opt for the cheaper airport, but if price is equal we'll always opt for FLL.

Okay thanks, right now airfare is cheaper for us at Miami. Southwest schedule isn't available yet since its mid Oct. But I thought transport from FLL would be more than from MIA also. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what Southwest airfare is. We always fly at least a day prior to cruise, just hadn't used this port before. :)

I've only been to each airport once but when flying into Mia in October it was quick and efficient. We loved being able to check in for the cruise at the airport.

The taxis were waiting and the ride to the port was short and sweet.

Things may be different for our cruise next month with it being high season for travel and cruises.

We will be flying into Miami airport with a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale in May due to cheaper airfare. Can we check in for a cruise at MIA even though our cruise is out of FLL? Thank you very much for info.

We flew Detroit to Miami last AUgust, it was great, free shuttle to our hotel, no problems at all, for us it was a direct flight and was cheaper then Fort Lauderdale, This year again, just booked our direct flights to Miami, after the cruise, jump in a cab and we were at the airport in minutes, Price is a big factor for people , for us Miami was cheaper for some reason

It's usually cheaper to fly into FLL, but when you factor in the cost of transportation from FLL to the port in Miami, it's usually a wash.

Miami has a Carnival check in at the airport, so that may be faster that the port as well.

MIA is much larger than FLL, but still easy to navigate. Also most of the economy airlines don't fly into MIA.

It really just boils down to a person preference.

Normally FLL is less expensive for us to fly to. We also like staying at Embassy Suites FLL and the SAS shuttle is an easy way for us to get to POM and back.

Sorry, I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can help you with that.
