Where I can drink my wine I bring onboard

So he was livid at the bartender because he broke a rule and got caught? If you are going to break a rule, you shouldn't get livid when caught, or be livid at yourself for being an idiot.

I do know that the rule for Bon Voyage is that it's supposed to be consumed in your room. Not sure about the wine you bring on. But it makes sense that the same rules apply.

Nope, not idiots! Just was unaware of the rule. I guess that makes you a genius since you KNEW THE RULE! She could have politely explained the the rule and not discarded the alcohol we paid dearly for. Tha would have been nice of her!

So he was livid at the bartender because of his own ignorance.

And she did explain the rule to you. Your reply on here was "Yeah right".

No reason to be livid at a person for doing her job, which is what the bartender was doing.

Ignorance is not an excuse.

This is rude and your other comment was nasty also. I can easily see overlooking something like that. I would expect the bartender to bring it to your attention and not make the drink. However, I've never heard of nor read the consequence being to throw the alcohol out.

If that had happened to me I would have gone to guest services to verify what the SOPs were. If it was a really a valid procedure I wouldn't be angry with the bartender cause maybe he'd get in trouble if he didn't throw it out. Maybe I'd give feedback or something stating the situation and how I didn't agree with Carnivals decision on how to handle it.

In my opinion the poster was rude. I consider it rude to be livid with somebody just doing their job. And with her "Yeah right " comment, she still thinks the bartender lied to her and is still livid. I find that very rude.

The workers on these ships work hard and do not deserve this attitude being shown from the poster.

If the poster had gone to Guest Services and check, like you would, she would have known the bartender was correct and just doing her job. She then would not have came on here spewing her nasty attitude toward the bartender.

I would have been livid with the bartender too. I also wouldn't have believed that was the SOP since other bartenders were doing things differently.

However; that also doesn't mean I would have said or done anything rude or offensive to the bartender. It would have simply been the way I felt.

She never said that she turned her feelings into actions and displayed that to the bartender. You are assuming that.

So you would be livid at another person also due to your own ignorance. But at least you stated above you would actually go find out that you were in the wrong and would no longer be livid at the bartender.

You would not have came on here accusing an innocent person of doing wrong and basically calling them a liar demonstrating continued ignorance.

I never said she displayed her outrage at the bartender, but she did turn her feeling into action by coming on here and denigrating a hard working person.

Valid points. I also respect you standing up for the people who work for Carnival.

However; calling somebody an idiot is, IMO, a form of bullying.

Idiot might have been a little strong. But I do not consider it bullying. I think the term bullying has been diluted by applying it to simple speech.

Well, a little strong and definitely offensive. IMO, you are also a very caring person for standing up for them even though I disagree with the way you initially went about it. You made me think about my own initial reaction/attitude in these last few posts.

I have seen bartenders on cruises treated badly by cruisers. That gets my goat.

Even had some friends of mine get caught up in it. They got caught doing something against the rules (sharing drinks on Cheers). The weird thing is that the one most upset at the bartender was the one getting free drinks. I called them idiots for doing it so blatantly as to get caught and then blame the bartender.

She was just doing her job. The one who was going to get punished (being cut off for the rest of the cruise) came around fairly quickly. It eventually worked out by him admitting he was in the wrong and ended up not being cut off.

Definitely see your point. I also understand that we can say certain things to our friends because we know they personally won't take offense. But, I do think the poster you called an idiot still deserves an apology.

At the time I called them idiots, I had only known them about 4 days. We met on that cruise. Lol.

When the poster comes back and apologies about the bartender, I will apologies to her.

Which in my opinion, will not happen, because she probably still feels the bartender was in the wrong, not her husband.

Sometimes people do something wrong and I react. It's still the right thing to apologize for what it was that I did wrong.

But, I'll leave it alone now.

Ok let me clarify a few things to THOMMY BOY. The"yeah right" comment was not to the bartender. It was me saying "yeah right" to the fact that people were only drinking their own alcohol in their room! It's quite obvious from these posts that individuals are bringing and drinking their own alcohol in public areas of the ship. My husband had approached several bartenders on the ship and each honored his request. This would lead us to believe that we were not breaking any rules. When the female bartender grabbed the cup and slung it in the sink we were startled. I just feel she could have handled the situation with a little more finesse. There was no shouting match with the bartender. At that point I simply went to guest services with my concern and was in fact informed of the rule which we complied with the remainder of the cruise! My original post was just to educate a previous poster that this has happened and to be aware of the situation. Thank you AmandaEnzo for your support!!!!

I apologies for calling you an idiot. Maybe I miss read what you was saying.

There is nothing wrong with informing people about what could happen if they don't follow the rules. Part of the miss understanding may have came from you saying "the bartender had the nerve to THROW the drink out." She had the nerve to do her job.

It makes it seem like you still think she did something wrong.

It was misunderstood what she wrote. This happens to me ALL THE TIME on forums.

In the future, I hope it's a lesson learned to question things further or at the very least state how we feel in a less offensive way. Takes a big person to admit a mistake.

Hard to do this. It brought a smile to my face cause I know how hard it is to do.:)

I'll stop mothering you now, lol. :D

Go over and read the thread that is going on right now called "what is cheaper , BV or bar?" Apparently there are quite a few people that did not know about this rule. Apology accepted Thommy Boy! I agree that the bartender was doing her job, however, I do not agree with her method. There is a difference!:)

I went and read that thread. Anybody who reads it now, know the rule now. But most people are talking about ignoring the rule, which is a whole other issue.

Etiquette on ships I don't fully understand as I've only been on one other cruise over 7 years ago.

I compare it to a regular bar and would think its funny/weird/rude to bring alcohol to a bartender to begin with so wouldn't have thought of it unless I read it or saw it being done. I'd also feel the same way about bringing wine into a restaurant and that seems normal according to what I've read.

I think because different rules seem to apply to cruise ships it makes a lot of other things confusing so I'd hope employees would understand that. If a bartender just threw my drink out rudely like that I'd be startled and probably wouldn't tip. If she was nice about it but bartenders were not following the rule I'd think her superiors were watching over her closely for some reason.

Seems like she was rude. I wonder why. Maybe she has a baby at home and needs to leave the child to support him/her. Or, maybe she's just a jerk for some reason. Sad... It would certainly take a lot for me not to tip the bartender...

Sorry, just going off on a bit of a tangent, lol...

My guess as to what happened is that they were using the cup from the soda program. When I have had them refill it, the will generally dump out the contents assuming it is watered down and fill with new.

The cups are generally colored and they had vodka in it. They probably assumed it was melted ice, so they dumped it out (normal operating procedure). Then she was informed that it was vodka. That is when the bartender informed them of the rule.

Imagine the complaints there would be if they just added ice and say cranberry juice that was now watered down since they did not dump out the clear liquid (melted ice).
