Nice or Monte Carlo hotel

We're flying into Nice in May for a cruise out of Monte Carlo. We'll be getting into Nice late morning and embarking the next day around noon. Can anyone recommend a good plan for a hotel and transfers. We've never been to either place and there will be 5 adults total.

Given that you only have one night (a real shame) you could stay in either place. Although we think that Nice is a much more interesting city (for most visitors) then Monte Carlo, either place can meet your demand for a decent hotel and places to eat before you head for your ship. Since Nice actually lies between the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport and Monte Carlo you will essentially have the same transfer distance whether you stay in Nice or Monte Carlo. As to transfers, you can either use taxis or arrange (on line) for a private transfer service. Getting into Nice from the airport is relatively easy (and not too expensive) but the transfer to Monte Carlo does involve significantly more cost because of the distance. There are other options such as the train or public buses, but unless you are able to easily handle your own luggage these would not be great options.

We have stayed two hotels in Nice. Splendid and Villa Victoria. Both were great and not too expensive. ( Most hotels in Nice are!) It is about 30 minutes to Monte Carlo by train. But if you have big luggage that would be difficult but not impossible. Both these hotels are near trainstation so you can walk there even with luggage.
