Sunshine or Liberty

Need advice. We have been on the Dream 7 times but are currently booked on the Sunshine June 28th to Nassau (hate the place), San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk. The bad reviews of the Sunshine are making me very nervous. We can go on the Liberty for 8 days to Aruba, Curaco, and Grand Turk for $49 more. What would you do and why? Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Taking first time cruisers with us. Thanks.

well, Im not saying that I would not sail on the Sunshine. Given the right price and itinerary, I probably would. But I have already sailed on the Liberty (pre 2.0 upgrades ) and loved that ship and that cruise! I even booked the Liberty for another cruise a few years later, but had to cancel due to an ill parent needing care at home. I would not hesitate to book again on the Liberty. I could watch those colored lights in the atrium change for hours:D

Reviews of Sunshine are mixed, but I would still try a cruise a on that ship. For me it would boil down to itinerary, number of days of the cruise, cabin availability vs price.

But since I have been on Liberty and loved it, it would likely be my choice.

whichever one you choose, have a blast and let us all know how it was.:)

Glad you posted this. We are looking at the same cruises and I can't decide.

We just got off the dream with our 2 young children and we all loved it. So we are looking to boom a cruise for next year and these caught my eye since they leave from Orlando.

We too love the Liberty. Also a little Leary of the sunshine with what I've read here... We have sailed multiple times on the dream too and love her! Actually boarding her in April for the relocation trip. I'm so sad to see her go especially with the reviews of the sunshine... All that said, we love the cloud 9 spa... And the Liberty doesn't have that and the sunshine does. So, for me it would probably be the deciding factor. If you don't care about the spa, I lean toward the Liberty.

Agree. I wouldn't let grumbling reviews sway me away from any ship on any major cruise line. But I've sailed Liberty twice now since the 2.0 upgrades, and I loved it both times. Either way, I'd enjoy myself.

I would go on Liberty just to not go to Nassau. Also you are getting an extra day. Plus, I like the ports on the Liberty cruise.

We just got off the Liberty with a very similar itinerary to the one on Sunshine except instead of Nassau we went to Half Moon Cay.

I've been on both ships, although we were on Sunshine when it was still Destiny. The cabins are nicer on Sunshine, but I loved everything else better about Liberty.

You can read my Sunshine review on the Carnival board. Lots of plumbing issues on the Sunshine. The rest is opinion, really. I thought the public spaces were crowded, YTD in the MDR was a hot mess, and Serenity area windy and loud. Other folks from my same sailing have said they'd sail on her again, so you may have to try it once to see.

Recently got off the Sunshine. There was a sewer smell in the hall between the casino and the fun hub. The food on the lido buffet wasn't anything to right home about. And the day we debarked, the water was going to be turned off from 8AM to 11Am to work on issues. Maybe it was because we were expecting more, but I wasn't impressed at all.

There were some good points too. Good food in the dining room, cleanliness, and the best cruise director we have had.
