Surprising my girls with a spring break cruise out of charleston. They're experienced cruisers and for whatever reason, love the chateaubriand on a previous cruise on carnival. They were even disappointed when on the Oasis of the Seas they didnt have it. Please tell me please that we will have it some night on the Fantasy?

I've been on Fantasy 6 times and I don't recall ever seeing it on the menu, but I'm vegetarian so it's possible I missed it.

just wondering how you like the fantasy, I haven't heard many good things, but you cant believe everything you read, Charleston is only 3 hrs. away, and I am tempted to try it, tell me something good, thanks

Thanks for the menu site!

The reviews for the Fantasy have been good. It's an older ship but my girls and I don't need all of that, they just want the palm trees and islands! I compared prices for spring break and could drive and park for $2500 or have to fly to Florida for a cruise and I was over $4000 so charleston it is!

I agree, the ports are not the most important thing to me,and you dont have to spend a fortune to have a good time .we have been to different ports that Iwwouldn't give two cents to go back, so all you can say is, I've been there, and I've been there also, but I had just as soon have been on the ship. Happy sailing to you and the girls.

In the member's review section, Msellers' review of the Fantasy might be a humorous exaggeration, but is not completely inaccurate either, especially in the description of many of the passengers. My wife and I enjoy people-watching on elegant night as so many of the younger women walk by in their tight dresses with 30 extra pounds squeezed into a dress 2 sizes too small, and their glitzy platform shoes. We believe they must have magic mirrors. They look like they're going to a hooker's convention. We never see this on nicer ships. The men with them don't look any better either. But you see all types on a cruise ship, and the Fantasy is no exception, except it has more of the type Msellers describes.

The ship is old and definitely smells of smoke on the Promenade deck near the casino and 21st century bar. Smoke drifts down the stairway and is noticeable several decks below. We avoid the pool deck area as much as possible but I have smelled smoke walking through there on occasion. I think smoking is allowed on one side.

We don't agree with Mseller that the food is bad. True, the food in the Lido is not especially good, and we hardly ever eat anything from the buffets inside or outside except for Mongolian wok, the salad bar, and an occasional sandwich. Those are pretty good. We eat most of our meals in the dining room and find the food and service to be good.

We always stay in an OV cabin mid ship on the upper deck and find it adequate for our needs. We take a lot of clothing and find plenty of storage space, and yes they do have night stands on both sides and soap. Don't know where Msellers stayed.

We exercise twice daily and enjoy walking in the morning on the sun deck if not too windy. We workout in the gym in the afternoon and think it is nicely equipped. My wife also likes the spa, and always gets the spa-topia treatment.

We don't go to the shows anymore and think Fantasy's are mediocre. We do enjoy the comedy shows though.

We like the Serenity deck very much and sit out there several hours each day. We've been to Nassau, Freeport, and HMC many times and only get off at HMC. We really like it when the ship docs and many get off.

I cruise mainly to play blackjack and eat. My wife cruises to relax, be waited on, eat, get massages, no grocery shopping, cooking, or preparing meals. Charleston is 4 hours away and the Fantasy fare is cheap, and meets our needs for one of two cruises each year. We like to do one really nice cruise each year on Celebrity or HAL and another less expensive shorter cruise from Charleston.

Let me say a word about the staff. We think they're excellent, especially in the dining room and cabin stewards. We've met many of the ship's officers and they too are friendly and accommodating.

Hope you have a good time on the Fantasy. No reason you shouldn't.

We did the 7 day on Fantasy in October and the 5 day last month. I do not remember seeing chateaubriand on the menu either trip. If I had seen it, I would have ordered it.

Don't let the negative reviews scare you away. Fantasy is still in great shape and she has one of the best crews at sea. Read some of the more recent comments about her in the All Things Fantasy thread.

We just got off the Fantasy last Sat. We were on the 7 day cruise. The Chateaubriand was served on our 2nd Elegant night. It's one of my favorites. We love the Fantasy, and weren't bothered by smoke. I don't spend time in the casino though, although my DH does. The ship is the oldest, but kept in tip top condition.

I've pretty much given up on ordering beef dishes on Carnival. I just don't order it any longer. I like my beef rare. When it's tender, it has no flavor and when it is tasty, it's tough. That's just been my experience the last few years.

The 5-night menus on Zydecocruiser's website just don't look like what I'm familiar with.

Pretty sure the 5-night on Fantasy are 5 of the 7 shown as the Conquest & Sunshine cruises. 1st night is the same (I always get the Tilapia); 2nd night is the Elegant night; 3rd night is correct (I finally tried the jerk pork and really like it); 4th night has the farfalle and turkey; and the 5th night is actually the menu shown there for the 7th night (I always get the chicken breast on fettuccine). That means that the the chateaubriand menu (which is #5 on the 7-night) is NOT offered on Fantasy's 5-night cruises.

So, I'm afraid that if you're on a 5-night sailing, your girls are going to be disappointed. If you're on a 7-nighter, they should be happy.

Oh, and I don't believe that Fantasy is the only cruise ship in the world on which there may be overweight people wearing too-small clothes. Implying this has anything at all to do with Fantasy is just absurd. I've seen the same thing on sailings out of Florida and San Juan.
