Super Bowl on Embarkation day?

My wife and I are planning next year's cruise, and one of the options is leaving on February 1st - which happens to be the Super Bowl.

So, I believe I've read on here in the past that Carnival shows the Super Bowl (in the main theater or the big screen by the pool?). Does anyone know how that affects the Embarkation Day schedule? Do they push back the Welcome Aboard show, etc.?

If anyone has a Fun Times showing this, that would be amazing! Thanks!

Which ship?

We just got back from Miracle which left on Superbowl and don't recall there being any changes to the schedule.

Sorry don't have Fun Times, but am nearly finished with my review titled "Miraculous Miracle". I wrote about embarkation and the Superbowl on the first page.

we sailed during the super bowl this year on the Magic. We had a fog delay, so it didnt really go as planned, but here are the pages on the funtimes that show how it was supposed to go. We also sailed on Superbowl Sunday on the Conquest in 2011. Dont remember how it affected the schedule, but we watched the game in the lounge and they had a whole "tailgate food" table set up in the lounge. it was nice

The Superbowl on a cruise ship is an interesting event. Especially in a moving ship where you can lose the satellite feed at any time. We've actually been on 4 cruises with the Superbowl, not planned that way... First one, satellite feed dropped out right after the start of the National Anthem. What was awe-inspiring is the crowd watching the event on the ship continued singing... How often do you see (hear) that??? Still makes me tingle. Food is great, lots of tailgating food. You will enjoy it.

It really depends on the ship on where it is shown. The one a year ago was shown in lots of the bars/lounges and on the big-screen at the pool.

We're looking at the Pride, out of Tampa. I checked out your review, thanks! I guess it makes sense that the schedule didn't have to change, as you were on Pacific time and the game was finished before the night activities.

Cool, thanks!! Looks like they moved back the Welcome Aboard show (at least, it was at 10pm on the latest cruise I was on). I wonder if it'd be moved back even more for Eastern time.

Sounds like an interesting event!! As the Pride is the same class as the Miracle, and it'll be after their fall drydock, hopefully it'll be shown all over the ship as in the Fun Times in this thread.

Probably.

In addition to the main theater it was shown in every bar as well as all the staterooms. If the ship has a lido screen it will be shown there as well.

It's a really fun experience. :)

We were on the Pride this year. After the safety drill, my dh went to the Taj Mahal to find a good seat. He ate the goodies they served there, and once I brought him a slice of pizza. We didn't go to the dining room that night.

He had a great time, except for one thing -- he's a Broncos fan.

The Welcome Aboard Show started shortly after the SuperBowl was over. The cruise director made announcements telling when it would start.

We sailed on Super Bowl Sunday this year on the Freedom. If your ship has a big screen, the game will be shown outside. It also was shown in the main theater and in the sports bar. There were various tailgate foods set up on the Lido deck and in the sports bar. Muster drill was at about 4 pm and we sailed at about 5 pm. I don't think there was a Welcome Aboard show since people were watching the game in the main theater. The main dining room wasn't too busy that night either. We had AYT dining and it was great not waiting for a table.

DW and I sailed on Freedom on Super Bowl Sunday in 2013. That was the game with the power failure in the Superdome. I watched the first half of the game in the theater, where they had snacks set up (hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, that sort of thing) and drink service. They also showed the game on the Lido Deck, but it was windy that night; that's why I wimped out and stayed inside. The muster drill happened hours before the game started.

It was fun watching the fans in their team wear that were from the San Fran or Baltimore area. Since the cruise left from Ft Lauderdale, the Baltimore contingent was more numerous. But the San Fran fans had a decent showing too.

The dining rooms were on the normal schedule. We had late seating, and so I met my wife for dinner at halftime (8:00 PM). (She had no interest in the game, I think she was checking out the casino while I was in the theater.) About two hours later, after dinner ended, I went back to the theater to see that the 3rd quarter was just ending, due to the power failure. So I got to see the end of the game too. The Welcome Aboard show did happen after the game, but it obviously started very late (about 11:00 or so).

Part of the reason we chose the cruise was because it was priced lower than similar cruises on the Freedom (Key West, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios - 6 days). It think the lower price was because it was happening during the Super Bowl; lower demand reduced the prices.
