Cruise cash question

Does Carnival's cruise cash, which is purchased on thier web site, actually save you anything or is it just money put twards your account?

No savings. It is just an option to allow one to "pre-pay" some of their on-board expenses. Some like this feature as they can purchase a little amount every week/month/paycheck and pay their expenses in advance versus coming home with a $1,000 charge to their credit card.

Keep in mind Cruise Cash is non-refundable. You will not receive a refund for what you do not spend. Because of this, I recommend putting away cash and applying that to your account once you board. That way, if you do not spend it all, you will get back what you do not use.

No savings. I like to buy about $300 worth of cruise cash prior to sailing just so I don't take as big a hit on my credit card at the end of my cruise. I never do more than that because I know I always spend at least that amount but I wouldn't want to end up with an overage that's non-refundable.

I to purchase cruise cash so far for my cruise in April I have purchased $200.00. I have been buying each week. like posted before it is non-refundable, but I know I will use it. I usually buy at least 1 excursion through carnival. So with the 200 and my OBC and gratuities pre-paid all looks good.

If you do have extra Cruise Cash left over just go to the Casino and buy table chips with your sail and sign and then cash them in.

3% transaction fee to purchase casino chips with your Sail and Sign card.

If you choose to go the Casino method, use the slot machines. No fee to use your Sail and Sign card.

I was thinking that after I posted it. But even at 3% it's better than not getting any back.

Only works the same as a piggy bank, except you let Carnival be the piggy bank.

Exactly.I have a special savings acct marked cruise account that I put money into every week. Then when I need it to cruise, there it is.I also put in it any extra money I get.Bonuses, cash back from credit cards, change that I have saved. This works really well for me but for some it would be tempting to dip into it when they needed money for other things.

I do both, I buy some cruise cash and then I put some money in the safe. This past trip between the amount I had in cruise cash, OBC amounts received and some small casino winnings I ended up bringing all but $100 back with me.

Now the other left over amount is in the safe for the next trip :)
