sunflower47 Posted April 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2014 Our first cruise will be coming up in the fall-trying to decide if we should just do a walking tour on our own, a ship excursion or a local tour. DH is not interested in just laying on a beach as he is sensitive to the sun. Water activities like snorkeling, paddle boarding, etc., are out as well. We would be more interested in learning the history of the island by visiting historical places and/or what nature has to offer on the island i.e parks, gardens, etc. There are so many great ideas on this board on what to do but with only about 7 hours doesn't seem like there is much time do really fit it all in. Also, is walking around with a large camera flung over your neck/shoulder all day safe to do (read the crime is not so good on the island). cruiseapril Posted April 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2014 If we were doing a non-beach excursion day, we would walk to the British Colonial Hilton for tea, do a short walking tour of Nassau and then take a taxi to Ardastra Gardens and Zoo. Another place to go is the Graycliff Hotel where you can observe chocolate and cigar making. Phone ahead. Be aware of potential problems in Nassau as in any other port. Stay with a group (or buddy), don't wander around at night. We do the same when we walk around Washington D.C.
