Venice Card - where to pick up?

Recommended Posts

Hi - we're looking at ordering the three day Venice Card for our Barcelona - Venice cruise on Millennium. I have a couple of choices where to pick up the card... does anyone know which is the closest to where Millennium docks?

Either: Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto Terminal

Thanks

Here is a link to information on the Venice Card.

We purchased them during our stay in Venice in 2003. We got the version that included transportation on the regular waterbuses (not the special airport waterbus) as well entry fees into most of the museums. We ended up about breaking even on the deal as opposed to buying just a trasnportation card and paying our own way into the museums we wanted to go to.

Here is the link to the ACTV which runs the waterbuses in Venice. They also have a transportation only card you can get for the waterbuses.

If you are only going to be in Venice for a day the Venicepass would be a waste IMHO. But if you are staying 2 full days or more it may be a way to go. Supposingly you got some preferential treatment at the museums as opposed to waiting in the line to pay individual admissions.

Take a look at the website above and see what you think. Here is one more really good Venice website.

He also covers the Venice card on one of the links.

Have a great next cruise.

Venicecard is a waste of money...

Why. . . . . ? We will be there four days post cruise (5 altogether) and had planned to use one for that period - what would you suggest instead?

Venicecard is a waste of money...

Wouldn't that depend on the individual? And you didn't ask what kind of card I got?

Mine was 27 Euro each. One way trips on the Grand Canal or to the Islands are 5 Euro, so return that's 10 Euro....doesn't take too many of those to pay for itself, never mind the hassle of not waiting in line to buy tickets, or choosing to take the Grand Canal from the cruise ship to save waiting for the ship's shuttle. You might have found that they you didn't use them enough to make them worth you while, but I think it's unfair to make a blanket statement like that.

One of the problems with the Venice card is it is only available for

VENICEcard can be bought for:

ONE DAY

THREE DAYS

or SEVEN DAYS

We were like you in that our ship came in on a Saturday and we were scheduled to sleep on the ship that night and then had to move to our hotel the next day. Then we were staying in Venice for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night and leaving on Thursday around 2 PM. That meant the 3 day Venice card wasn't long enough so we ended up getting the 7 day one because we wanted to be able to use the card for transportation on the first day we arrived and thought we were then going be getting our transportation back to the airport on the last day. Actually by the time we ate breakfast and finished packing and settling up for the room and wanted to make sure that we got to the airport a couple of hours before the flight we didn't get to use the Venice card at all the last day. We did get a lot of use out of it especially on the waterbuses and in the museums during the Saturday through Wednesday period.

If we were doing it again we would probably consider gettiing the multiple day ACTV waterbus pass and pay our own way into the museums. But there was an advantage to having the Venice card since several of those had seperate lines for Venice card pass holders as opposed to those just paying their way in. There were also supposed to be discounts on a variety of services for Venice pass holders.

One other feature we didn't use at all was the paid public toilets. We couldn't figure out how to use the Venice card to use them since they only seemed to take coins.

All in all the Venice card is probably worth the money if you use all the features and the offers it provides. If you are just using it for transportation the ACTV card is probably a better buy.

Have a great next cruise.
