Carnival Liberty=terrible casino

Last month I went on the sunshine for an 8 day cruise and had a blast in the casino. I did not come home with anything close to a profit but their casino staff was incredible and the machines were hitting. Every night as my points grew I received comps from cookies to wine and on the last night I received a letter under the door offering a free cruise which I took as 5 days on the liberty. Oh was that a terrible mistake.

I arrived sunday and went down before the casino opened to talk the the casino head host. I saw on these forums that 5k points on your previous cruise(I had a little over 7k on sunshine) got you a free drink card before you even played. I talked to the lady in charge who acted confused like I was making things up. She was suppose to head the entire casino yet somehow did not know this? I look on the counter next to her arm and literally my free drink card with my name on it was sitting there so she reluctantly gave it to me while lecturing me how you cannot expect this every cruise. I should have known right there things would be going downhill.

Let me state that there was one host from I think Peru who was great. He was the ONLY staff to every approach me and tried his best to keep up with the general incompetence of the ship. I felt sorry for him at the end. Anyway, I met many people playing slots and everyone said the same thing- payouts were a joke and I mean the most pathetic I have ever seen in any casino. I love the goldfish game and the sunshine was hitting right and left while the liberty never hit anything(we are talking 200 spins for one bonus). During the entire cruise they had 3 jackpots for $1500 and 2 of them were on the same machine. They had more jackpots on the first hour on the sunshine. Needless to say after midnight barely anyone played the slots and the last couple days everyone just gave up.

After the first night I had 2900 points and received nothing. Day 2 I had over 4k points and received some really tiny dried out chocolate covered strawberries. I was told they would send over some cookies for my kid which took them 3 days to do and my wine also took a ship detour and arrived late during the last night. When I asked the original lady on its location I was told it had been sent to the dining room but since I was not there they could not deliver it to my room until they had proof I had not picked it up. Really? Apparently she assumes her guests are all liars and thieves.

I ended the cruise with over 9k points and was told by the casino staff they give out free cruises with 5k points on an 8 day cruise so a 5 day cruise would be much less. It did not matter anyway since I had 9k but sure enough no letter. Before I got off I talked another host and was told they no longer give letters(the sunshine did and another host said just 3 weeks ago they did) but I would receive an email or call with my personal invitation. I did not believe a word he said.

Goodbye carnival. Hello NCL. Pathetic customer service. Pathetic comps. Pathetic payoffs. Lie after lie. No thanks.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I was on the Liberty last September and had one of the best casino experiences I have ever had. The dealers and pit staff were all fantastic, and the casino host, Francisco, was extremely friendly and went out of his way to make sure that we were having a good time. The casino staff is generally on six month contracts and rarely get assigned to the same ship when they sign their new contracts, so that would explain the different experiences we had.

Forward your concerns to exechost@carnival.com

I too had some concerns about my comps and was very happy with the results. Hopefully they will be resolved to you satisfaction.

Just make sure your email is polite and businesslike. Only include facts and not opinions and expect to wait a week for a reply.

I know how frustrating it can be because you get so many different answers. The above Email addy has the final say and as mentioned hopefully it will be resolved to your satisfaction.

Thanks. I emailed and did a decent job of keeping it civil which is difficult as I am still raging. That was my 10th cruise and I still cannot believe the incompetence of the staff and the horrific perks. I got my special offer in my account and it was from $124 with $0 money after 17k slot points on my last 2 cruises. Insane.

Well I called the players club and was offered a 3-5 day cruise and I also learned a few things I never knew about while I was being bitched at because people are greedy and you can never make everyone happy. I had 7.5k points on an 8 day cruise and was offered a cruise up to 8 days. I then got 9.5k points on the 5 day cruise but was not offered up an 8 day cruise which makes no sense to me but apparently does to them.

1)They go by your current cruise with your offer. She said they will not up the amount of days even if you had more points.

2)**Most importantly*** They go by your play the last 2 days. Wow I wish I had known that. You can get a million points on your first day but they could care less. On the sunshine I was still betting alot on the last couple days because the machines were decent but on the Liberty I and everyone else got killed so I only put about 2k up during the last 2 days. Seriously none of this makes any sense to me but so be it.

I have had some casino hosts who were excellent, some who were pretty good, and one who was horrible. The horrible one was on The Carnival Pride back in January and I'm going on The Pride again in August and I so hope she is not on there.

They must not count your last day's play towards giving you the letter for the free cruise because they usually give it out early in the evening of the last night. I think I may have even received it the next to last evening of a cruise. I always do 7 night cruises.

The lady told me the exact opposite. She said they use the last 2 days to figure out what perks to offer and since most of my points were during the first half of the cruise they did not offer much. Of course the slots were dead and everyone was broke by the end so not much I could do.

Yeah, the payouts on video poker suck too. Four aces with 2-3-4 should be 2000 but Liberty payout is only 500. That sucks since i got the aces with kicker 6 or 8 times during our last cruise on the Liberty.

I literally did not see a single person play video poker the entire 5 day cruise. Not once. Now I know why.

gator, are you sure you were playing Double Double Bonus VP because that's the game that pays 2000 with the kicker.

Hi Art,

Yeah i'm POSITIVE i played double double bonus poker. It's the ONLY game i play. As y'all stated, it SHOULD pay 2000 but on the Liberty, they had the normal payout covered up with a piece of paper scotch taped over to read 500. AND the payout was indeed 500.

I missed this earlier. That is absolutely insane. I would not have touched those machines, and I have logged 20 plus hours the other 2 times I have been on the Liberty. I have played the heck out of those machines. Is this localized to just the Liberty or is that a Carnival wide thing now? Boy am I glad to be going on NCL this month.............

Carnival has the worst casino experience at sea. I took my many thousands of dollars I spend each cruise (4 last year) and now will sail strictly NCL where they treat you AMAZING and have competent staff.

Switch to NCL and I guarantee you will not regret it!
