Celebrity or Princess?

Just remembered another difference, Celebrity has actual sommeliers and a much more varied wine list.

Celebrity has full room service. Hot breakfast and MDR menu for dinner available to room, no charge except I tip. Great late night menu too, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, salad, and more 24 hrs.

For me, the Summit should be sent out to sea with cement shoes. We were on it two years ago and it was awful. Six months later it failed health inspection. It was filthy, the decor looks like an HGTV project gone bad, the buffet was barely edible, the shopping deck played music from a boombox with wires all over the floor and walls, and having to wait with your carry on luggage in a packed public space until the rooms were available was extremely annoying. Perhaps the Cindarella of the Celebrity fleet, I don't know, but I'm turned off to Celebrity for good. I didn't see anything upscale about this ship.

I vote for Princess.

Wow, this is definitely an example of two different experiences! We sailed Summit 4 times in the past year and never found these things to be true. Guess that's why all the different lines still survive.

Definitely! Forgot about that one!

I have been with both lines and they are both outstanding. They are completely different in style though.

I think Celebrity has the edge on Princess by having large ships with less passengers meaning a more comfortable space ratio.

If I had to use words to describe both lines I would describe Celebrity as modern and trendy and Princess as traditional.

I wont go into details but all I can say is that both lines are outstanding and I like them both for entirely different reasons. I cannot possibly be disappointed with either line. Don't expect them to be the same. Just appreciate that they are different and there is a certainty to have a great time on either line.

I think it would be a disservice to compare them on all the food, entertainment values. Ship and facilities then Celebrity wins out over Princess.

You have to compare classes and ages of ships. If you like the M class Celebrity ships, compare them to, perhaps, the grand class on Princess.

We have sailed on Celebrity Summit and Caribbean Princess this year. My preference is the Summit, more for the lack of inside smoking venues, lounge chair comfort, and entertainment. That doesn't mean that we didn't like the Caribbean Princess. We did. Food and service were equal to Celebrity. As mentioned above, however, if you can book Aqua Class on Celebrity, nothing compares to the dining experience in Blu.

You touched on the two key differences that I experienced. We recently sailed on Celebrity Constellation on a 5 day and are booked in Aqua again for a TA in Nov. Blu was outstanding and much better than any MDR experience I ever had on Princess. The other is smoking, which Princess allows in the casino and X does not. When we we sailed on the Sappire last year the casino experience was severely dampened by smoking.

It all depends on what you like to do. I'd put the entertainment on X and Princess pretty equal except that X theaters are better equipped for the crowds. Neither of them will rival RCCL for entertainment. I like the buffet setup on X much better than Princess- they don't try to funnel you through a single line. So far I've found prices on both pretty equal, but highly depending on what ship/itinerary you're looking to do.

We have been going on two cruises a year, one on Celebrity and one on Princess. We are doing that again this year and next. In our opinion, Celebrity is just a bit nicer than Princess, but we really like both.

Service - slight edge Celebrity

Entertainment - edge Princess

Food - we love Blu, so Celebrity, but Princess has the International Cafe.

Cabins- about the same to us.

MUTS - Princess only, we really like Muts.

Itineraries - recently, we have found more on Celebrity that we liked than Princess. That's a matter of personal preference.

We were on Summit in 2013 and had a great time. I guess it is all in your perspective. We aren't all that fond of Caribbean Princess, but have been on the ship three times because it fit the itineraries we wanted.

Both lines are a lot of fun to us. You can have fun on either one. Go with the right mind set and you will have a great cruise.
