Badfinger Posted August 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Through some price reductions we received the subject OBC for 2 cabins. $40 for each cabin. How does the work? I want to play Black Jack. And in the end I want to keep a few poker chips as well. Never gambled on a cruise ship before. Could I use this Casino OBC to buy a drink (with souvenir cup) while in the Casino?
evanAction Posted August 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Do you have casino cash or regular OBC? Regular OBC works as a credit on your account on the ship. You chip away at it every time you purchase something onboard: sodas, booze, souvenirs etc. If you want to "withdraw" that OBC as cash in the casino, walk up to a slot machine and "charge" X amount of money from you ship account to your casino account. Then you can withdraw it at the casino cashier cage. Also, I don't believe any of the casinos in the fleet have "real" poker tables, just digital PokerPro's.....so no specific chips to get there. You can however get chips from the table games :) Have a nice cruise.
Badfinger Posted August 4, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 4, 2014 My cruise document identifies it as "Promotional Onboard Credit - Casino Non-Refundable". As far as poker chips, I was referring to the chips that are used when playing Blackjack.
evanAction Posted August 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Gotcha on the chips. Hopefully someone else can chime in that has used promotional OBC before.

In the event you do not spend $40 on items during the course of the cruise, you will not get a check for the difference.
Miller_KC Posted August 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Most of the OBC I've had was less than the automatic tips so we just counted it as going there then spent whatever we wanted on everything else. I think there is a fee if you buy poker chips with your S&S card, but there is no fee for buying with cash. Be aware that the $1 chips no longer have the ship's name on them, just generic Carnival. Some of the $5 still have the ships on them, but that is becoming more rare too. Looks like they want you to spend at least $10 to keep the cool chips with the ship and casino name on them. Depending on the ship you can probably still get the custom $5 chips with just a few hands. Sometimes you even get chips from other ships.
SadieN Posted August 4, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2014 I've never seen the souviner cups (disco ball, fish, whaletail etc) for sale anywhere except on the Lido. The drinks are served in real glass in the casino.

We also had $40 Casino Non-Refundable OBC for each of our 2 cabins on Carnival Magic a couple of weeks ago. We got it along with a $300/cabin price reduction our TA arranged for us. Once on board, we could see that it was actually $20 credited to each of the two individuals in our cabins. It was for casino play only and did not apply to regular cruise purchases. I asked guest services and they said that my under-18 son's $20 credit would be good for arcade purchases. I also asked guest services if my wife's $20 could be moved to my account since she doesn't gamble - they said no. So apparently it is non-transferrable, too. I didn't pursue it with the casino, so perhaps they could have accommodated me. It wasn't worth my time. I presume you could go to the casino window and get chips for it, but don’t really know. Hope that helps some. Tim
