The cruise ship terminals are within walking distance of the town centre. The walk is pleasant too. There's an old submarine and an 19th century galleon in the adjacent docks.

Not sure if you will be able to see Costa Concordia though other than when you sail in and sail out

can anyone tell me were the emerald princess docks in genoa and is it close to the town centre i.e. walking distance or a bus ride

A friend's family sailed on Emerald in July and said the following for Genoa & Corsica.

In Genoa we hopped straight onto the open top city tour bus at the port gates. Only about 1km to city centre.

In Ajaccio we walked straight in first to market, then walked up to square and around and about. Very easy and beach very close, too.

Both ports easy access.
